The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

While trying to get a new feature from Fandango to work for me, stumbled upon this:

https://www.fandango.com/eternals-fan-event-2021-225963/movie-overview

Eternals_380x537_ONFE_v1.jpg

Been checking Century Arden off and on before this to see if they had anything and came up empty, but looks like there is some sort of ONFE for Eternals out there.  No idea if it's already on sale and just extremely limited or if it'll go on sale soon-ish.

Gonna check into this now and dig a little deeper now that I know there is something out there.

EDIT::::

Looks like maybe this is only at the El Capitan Theatre?

Lame.

Never mind then.

Perfect storm today in Salt Lake as a cold rain fell most of the afternoon and rather than staying at home streaming, folks flocked to the theater. Here's the Dune matinee count at the Sugarhouse Cinemark.

11:50 AM 82/106

12:50 53/62

3:25 108/110

4:25 59/63

Total 302/341 88.6%

That's over twice what yesterday did.

Evening counts (6 showings) will be flat to slightly up as last night averaged 90% and tonight will too even with one additional screen adding 8% capacity.

No matter how you slice it, today was HUGE.

Dune in my last run was at 133758/565547, $1556261, based on yesterday should finish at 1.7ish million. Yesterday final was 1.5 million. With the MTC2 ratio increasing on Sat, thinking 10% bump.

If that's the case, it'll bring the opening weekend right around $39M.

Its almost 10% up and Saturday MTC ratios tend to go down. Thinking 14m Saturday.

I'm noticing it at a lot of other AMCs. The 20plex I track only has it on two screens aside from Dolby and IMAX, one of the largest and one average sized. 3/4 of the largest standard auditoriums are occupied by Halloween Kills

And it makes sense that HK got moved into dine-in screens at Disney Springs. They'll always try to prioritize those screens as they fill up a lot quicker than standard shows for the resort's demographics. Food sales will outweigh any additional capacity standard screens would provide for something like HK's second weekend

I can’t imagine eating while watching that movie.

1st of all ignore $ gross for BW. There was a bug where my scrapper would return 0 when ticket price was like 8.09 or something like that. So I have 100's of shows with Zero gross despite having many tickets sold. That said Eternals does have some ticket price advantage and it has hung close to BW for previews/friday(BW previews was middle of the day) while being comfortably ahead on saturday. This week with reactions did play well for Eternals and let us see how next week goes with reviews.

FYI BW a week later data(again in the morning time. It had another super strong week for sure.

You'd think that wouldn't you? But the local Studio Movie Grill was just as brisk as it always is for that level of movie, so obvs wasn't a problem for the target audience.

(this is on topic as I mentioned theater traffic at a local [dine-in] theater for a movie, which could be used as an anecdotal data point for similar cases in the future ;))

According to Bestie, The El cap Fan events are simply their first showing with some bells and whistles. So far they have not done any advance screenings. Trust me. We have been checking.

Eternals Harkins Quick and Dirty Check T-12 Days

Cine 1 & IMAX - 1406 (+27% since T-17 Days)

CA Normal - 326 (+45%)

Cine Capri - 79 (+41%)

CO - 87 (+93%)

Phoenix - 235 (+50%)

Total - 2133 (+34%)

These theaters had 91% sales of all chains in last check, should be a bit lower, so round about 2400 sold probably. I had set target of 2500 at T-10 days, should be done easily I guess with two days to go.

About to walk out the door but wanted to drop some numbers since I ran them.  MHA looks like another big hit - should be VERY pre-sales heavy and, with no previews, that means a big Friday.  Antlers has almost sold as many tickets as Soho's Wed + Thu which is a little surprising.
