In normal times King Richard would have all the makings of a leggy box office hit. In the current climate, it'll finish in the same single digits opening/low-$20M range that has become the norm for a movie that would have to rely on an audience that doesn't rush out on opening weekend to make money.

Top Gun 2 getting out of this year is the best thing that could've happened to it. So many of the biggest hits of the year before life turned upside down including Knives Out, 1917, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Ford v Ferrari, The Upside, Little Women, Hustlers, Rocketman, Downtown Abbey (probably the closest we're ever gonna get to a blockbuster that made almost all of its money from the AARP-eligible crowd) would be facing the same problems right now if they had been the unlucky ones. Heck, Joker wouldn't be nearly as big of a monster that it was either if the Oscar audience hadn't joined in.

I've been trying to remember what King Richard reminds me of... I think it's The Way Back.  Unfortunately that will never be a good comp for anything for full run, but I could see the OW being close.

BB9-B33-DD-D1-B8-4-A8-D-B0-CD-47136-FA19 incoming for Richard:jeb!:

Just saw that Ghostbusters is gonna have IMAX for almost a month until Spider-Man comes out. Surprised 20th Century/Disney isn't giving West Side Story the premium treatment for that one week before with such an empty schedule unless they don't think it's worth the effort when the primary audience for the movie wouldn't check it out in the format to begin with (in addition to the concerns about said audience not returning to theaters for anything).

You can't make sequels or theme park rides out of West Side Story, so Disney doesn't care about it. Sad but true.

Funnily enough, the marketing a couple of months ago for The King's Man touted that it was going to be in IMAX and now recent materials have dropped all mention of it. Guess they realized they had no chance of securing screens once it became clear neither Spider-Man or The Matrix were moving.

That’s strange, West Side Story was confirmed for IMAX here in the UK yesterday, they did a press release to announce it.

How recent? Just a bit over a week ago, I saw the trailer in front of Dune IMAX (and all the trailers I remember other than this were all trailers for IMAX releases).

Didn't get the trailer when I saw Dune in IMAX opening weekend (Eternals/Ghostbusters/Spider-Man/Matrix/Batman were what was shown) so can't say for sure but the trailer before my regular showing of Eternals this past weekend seemed to say just "in theaters December 22" and they released a bunch of posters the other week that also said the same thing with no mention of any PLF formats.

Okay the * is there are a number of what look like private shows in the morning. 6 shows total sold of 1491. So If you want that as a separate count or want to include as you will. Later I will probably do Thurs and Friday shows.

Just because why not-Bonus Early access!

Sing 2

November 27 (taken Nov 10)

4 Theatres

4 shows

Total sold 313

Total remaining 480

total seats 793

percentage 39.47

So yes this is being presented as an "Early Access" for 4 theatres in Toronto-and people must really be digging a Sing 2, almost 40 percent sold for this special screening.

Only a small update from me today:
Belfast still has only showtimes in 2 of my theaters, in Miami and LA, and now 26 sold tickets for Friday (it were 5 on Monday).

And Clifford, counted today at 10am EST for Friday, November 12:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 53 (7 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
18 (7 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18):
17 (2 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 0 (4 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 0 (7 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16):
13 (5 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 21 (7 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 122.

Comps (all counted on Wednesday for Friday): Dolittle (21.8M OW) had 240 sold tickets in 7 theaters,

Boss Baby 2 (16.0M OW) had 140 sold tickets in 6 theaters

and Paw Patrol (13.1M OW) had 279 sold tickets in 6 theaters (but only a 13% jump from Wednesday to Thursday).

So at the moment around 10M 3-day weekend I would guess. But I have no idea how big the Paramount+ impact will be.
