I can also see Paramount trying to get the films.

TWC only acquired US distribution for Paddington as it's produced by Studiocanal. Lionsgate would make more sense since they have a relationship with Studiocanal, they distributed Shaun the Sheep and will distribute Early Man.

At my theater Foreigner sold 67 total tickets tonight in two shows or about double American Assassin (also in 2 shows).

HDD sold 76 total in 3 of 4 shows but I missed the 1045 one so not sure how that one did.  Probably a handful at least.  I watched the 930 - enjoyed the movie as did the small audience.  I don't have a good comp for this one.

It's pretty telling that about 85% of HDD's sales are from night showings; the daytime is looking AWFUL. Kingsman is holding pretty well, but the rest of the holds don't look good. Foreigner comps:

45% of AA

50% of THB

60% of Kingsman

So far, HDD not selling during the day here either.  12pm show had only 1 seat taken- not too surprising I suppose

/90% of Happy Death Day's business will come after 5.

I agree...my locals for 5pm or later showings already...

1st local - 131/585 (added an extra late show)

2nd local - 102/275 (moved to bigger 125 seat screen for last show - I think they will also add another 8pm show b/c they have only front row left - it tends to be their trend if they find an unsold screen early enough)

How do Fandango and MT make money?  Do they get a kickback from the theater or the studio or both?  Or is it purely service fees?

Fandango being own by studios (Universal/WB) probably does not need to make much money to make sense but they seem to be doing good according to comcast annual report (thought they do not give much details,  revenues being part of the Others line of filmed entertainment that include many revenues sources), but other similar service make money by starting free and then charging service fee once they become popular

Ah, for some reason I assumed it was a standalone.  Should've checked and seen it was studio owned.  The CEO of moviepass today said AMC doesn't like them because they will be rolling out their own subscription this year (I have no idea if this is true, would tend to not believe this source).  I was curious if that would antagonize Fandango (now Fandango/MT) but if studio-owned it seems more likely these guys just want people to watch their movies and doesn't matter as much how they get there.

One reason that people do not like MoviePass is that propose a unsustainable model that could cheapen everything.

The start free if they become popular will rapidly turn into asking for bulk deals to theater chain and the more popular they become the more people will associated the price of a movie to be 10$ a month for everything you want to watch, there is a risk of destroying the theatrical and hurting the future windows too cheapen a product that much, with a larger and larger base that will not want to go back to 10$ for a single movie after MoviePass will have closed (or doubled is price)
