Hm, I expected more for Three Billboards and Lady Bird.

WTF is up with these random Marshall expansions? This is like the third time it's happened

Previews tonight at my AMC:

Three Billboards: 15/78

Lady Bird: 6/63

Three Billboards is on par with The Snowman (3.4M), 50% of MBU (5.3M), about 55-60% of mother! (4.5M on the high end), 80% of Home Again (6.9M).

This is low for Lady Bird. The Big Sick sold two less back in July.

Pinpointing where these two will land is extremely hard. I'm expecting increases for both this weekend but not astronomically higher cumes than last weekend. Lady Bird is going to fall victim to not being a rural movie.

Not surprised, the studio's in turmoil and it's gotten a nonexistent marketing push. It'll probably do as badly as Playing for Keeps did five years ago, maybe even worse.

They're airing ads nonstop on Fox News; whenever my parents have it on, there's an 80% chance a Just Getting Started ad will play :hahaha:

TFA same # of days out:

SW: TFA 54%

Mp2: 10%

Creed: 5%

TGD: 4%

Krampus: 3%

No doubt TFA was more anticipated but I think TGD being such a dud is what really makes a difference here in comparison to Coco this year.

I am going to try to show a sample of total showtimes playing Thursday and then how it changes to Friday.  Fandango will help me when I put in a zip code and get 4-5 pages of theaters.  I can pick 20 theaters that have 4 or more screens.  I would choose 5 or more screens only, but for some reason the Starlight theaters in Southern California are not showing movies by distributor FOX.  4 screen theaters balance this out by making it hard for more than 3 films to make 20 out of 20 theaters.  Ok, i will get back to this later.

Again, nothing big is coming this weekend.  Who is going to get the most of the market?  Thursday will have a cumulative total of showtimes that reflect on each individual day from almost this past week or so.  Friday, things can change.  If you are playing a game or a tournament, this can be useful to lower ranking films at the box office.  If you are betting real money, then you probably know this stuff better than me.

Sorry about the delay!

22 theaters

Coco had 22 theaters Thursday and stays at 22 theaters Friday.  Showtimes increase from 250 to 285.

Justice League still at 22/22.  Showtimes decreased from 274 to 238.

Wonder increases from 103 to 107.  It has been at 21/22 theaters.

Daddy's Home 2 is staying at all 22 of its theaters and has showtimes going from 119 to 110

Murder been at 19/22 and staying that way.  Showtimes go from 91 to 94.

The Star's showtimes go from 91 to 88 and it keeps its 19 theaters.

BMC had 66 showtimes at 17 theaters.  Now it is at 16 theaters and 58 showtimes.

Thor still stays at all 22 theaters.  Showtimes go from 161 to 145.

Roman staying at 64 theaters in 15 locations.

3 Billboard going from 8 to 14 locations.  Its total showtimes at 69

Here is the list

Coco - 285 (22)

JL - 238 (22)

Thor - 145 (22)

DH2 - 119 (22)

Wonder - 107 (21)

This is ok for Three Billboards but nothing outstanding. It's behind Wind River by a significant amount (no specifics but my showing of that had over 40 people in it), 45% of Logan Lucky (3.4M), and 166% of Battle of the Sexes (5.6M).

This is baaaaaaaad for Lady Bird; it's 50% of Sexes (1.7M) :( OTOH, it's 75% of Home Again, but that was facing Irma prep. FWIW both this and Three Billboards have been playing not too far away for a week, but that hasn't stopped expansions from selling like crazy in the past like Wind River and La La Land. Lion wasn't on the level of those two but was doing better than 3B and LB.

Justice League is only ahead of The Star, DH2, and Lady Bird and nearly half of Thor/OE :hahaha:

Thatd certainly be good for AMC/Dolby

Yeah. It's not selling insanely or anything, but both of the first showings seemed to be about a quarter to a third full. Tonight's looking very encouraging too.

Edit: wait nvm the first show at Altamonte only sold 5 tickets lol. Disney's first show was just under 20 tickets. I'm sure it's faring better than T23D, and given how expensive Dolby tickets are, that's a fair chunk of cash.
