That bodes really well when it go wide in January. Is it expanding in the coming weeks or just the 9 then fully wide on the 12th

If it follows The Revenant, it'll stay in 9 theaters. However, Revenant went wide in its third week; The Post isn't going wide until its fourth.

Similar pattern to American Sniper which didn't go wide until week 4

I'm curious how Molly's Game and ATMITW do in limited release

My theater is cutting its 3D Star Wars shows down to one a day starting tomorrow (and sticking it a 9:10 in the morning). lol ouch.

Not a surprise...I checked some 3d showings tonight at my locals and was surprised how not full they were (like 5-10 seats total sold)...it's like wasting showtimes now, and in the holiday season, who wants to waste showtimes when you can sell out every seat in 2d?

Especially when screen space is about to get really tight at my theater (they are expecting 9 new movies across 14 screens starting tomorrow through Monday).

Same here. A little weirded out when someone wants to see Star Wars in 3D. It feels unnatural.

I know every year we say this but maybe this is the year that the studios actually realize how they hurt themselves by releasing all these films in one go. Like seriously. Even if they staggard them 3 and 3 it would be better but this 6 new wide films all in 5 days compounded by limited expansions into wide is just nuts.

It's been sat on a shelf since 2016, clearly WB is dumping it.

Yes but they could have dumped it at any point it the calendar where product was needed. Even August may have netted them something or this coming January.

I suspect they had to release it this year for budgetary reasons.

Wikipedia says prod budget for Father Figures is 25m. Not a big risk for WB.

The first two weeks of Dec did not have a wide opener except for Just Getting Started which was a non started with Open Road  No reason not to put it there  even if they shared the same demo and would lose screens with SW opening.  It would still have been better off.

My theater has posted its full schedule through Monday:

Today: The Greatest Showman, Jumanji on 2 screens

Friday: Call Me by Your Name, Darkest Hour, Downsizing, Father Figures, Pitch Perfect 3

Monday: All the Money in the World, Molly's Game

Only other movies they are showing are Star Wars, Ferdinand, and The Shape of Water across 14 screens. Gonna be a crazy frame.
