Brave of WB to already have a new date set. Should have just put TBD like the others. We have no idea what the situation would be like worldwide in August. Would be really awkward if this has to move yet again.

They've still not undated Tenet either but TBF a lot of films that are still dated have time to make changes within the next month or so.

I think it was still shooting so August was always looking iffy when things shut down.

In The Heights I could see replacing King Richard or Godzilla vs Kong or going to December as an awards player potentially replacing Tom and Jerry which is wrapped but was in post production.

Really?

I believe they had a test screening for Malignant like last month, and the results weren't so stellar to some (which again, it's just a test screening) so maybe reshoots?

So, Will it release without Imax and other PLF screens?

Do WB have contract for August 14 weekend? Many movies will release around that time that will actually have contract.

I would imagine Malignant was one of the movies they had with IMAX contracts so it would be easy to swap the films around.

They shot this partially with IMAX 70mm, maybe they'll get special treatment.

Not the date I expected

Late August through Labor Day is usually a dead zone so they're likely betting on it taking advantage of an empty landscape for a while though with the schedule backed up a bit, late summer probably won't be as dead as it usually is.

Smart of WB to basically block out a month free from competition. Tenet will have IMAX for 4 weeks from July 17 to Aug 14 and WW1984 will take over after that.

They have smartly managed to block all other big movies which could have thought of a release during that window from releasing. No Mulan, Black Widow or any other IMAX movie during those 4 weeks.

Wonder Woman and Tenet filmed with IMAX cameras on IMAX film. They both get 4 weeks unimpeded on IMAX due to that. The new date prevents any other IMAX tentpole from releasing between Tenet and WW84, its basically blocking out 8 weeks for themselves.

This is almost certainly releasing on IMAX. There is no way IMAX is going to prevent a film filmed partially in IMAX from releasing in that format.
