So...what's everyone expecting from next week's limited releases (since there are no wide openers)? I think The Shape of Water could pull $80K PTA while The Disaster Artist should do $30K PTA (it's going to be in about 20 theaters). With weak reviews and no awards prospects, Wonder Wheel will be the next nonstarter.

I can see Shape of Water going over 100k. Disaster Artist might do over 40k, or even blow up to near-Black Swan levels.

Touche. Gotta start somewhere though.

I'd start with Gravity, it's not the same on a small-screen versus a big screen but it's still an excellent and accessible movie.

I think in general the most GA friendly of the movies are in this order (of the ones you haven't seen and more GA friendly for your demo)

Inception

Gravity

True Grit

La La Land

Django Unchained

American Sniper

The Help

Hidden Figures

The Big Short

The Social Network

Bridge of Spies

Hell or High Water

Whiplash

The Revenant

The Imitation Game

The Wolf of Wall Street

American Hustle

Lincoln

Granted, if you look at the films BO that's probably a better indicator of whats GA friendly.

Disclaimer: There's no accounting for taste, and I wouldn't classify myself as a film lover tbh. Just here to popcorn at the numbers, mostly.

Bolding Liked (Would watch again of my own volition)

Italics  Disliked (I want my time back)

Nothing So-so

Everything under spoiler cut: Didn't watch (please reccomend if you think I'd like something here based on what I have seen and do like) There's a lot ^^; Additional information: I adored LotR and most of Miyazaki's films.

  1. Mad Max: Fury Road
  2. The Martian
  3. Hacksaw Ridge
  4. Toy Story 3
  5. Arrival
  6. Les Miserables
  7. Life of Pi
  8. Black Swan (I somehow managed to fall asleep during this...in my defence was watching in the dorms and I was both very tired and very comfy)

Not all my personal choices but you might enjoy:

Inception

Gravity

Captain Phillips

The Wolf of Wall Street

Lion

Hell or High Water

Hidden Figures

The Big Short

Django Unchained

True Grit

The Revenant

Since you said you like Mizyaki you might enjoy the whimsical aspects of these

The Grand Budapest Hotel

I've always put off watching True Grit because my dad wasn't a fan of it. I need to watch it eventually!

True Grit is excellent, much better than the original.
