Because of anti-monopoly law, Disney-Fox merge is an obvious monopoly. The government should stop this deal, but they likely won't because they are corrupted.

*doesn't know what a monopoly is*

You know I was looking back..... The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a Fox product from DC comics isn't it? Does Fox still have the rights to the movie?

DC don’t own League, they used to publish the comic but that’s it. Same way Marvel doesn’t own Kick Ass but used to publish those comics (I think Kick Ass is owned by Netflix now).

One interesting this though is that Disney will own the rights the 60s Batman film, and broadcast rights to the 60s Batman show.

The movie industry generates a lot of money and jobs. Unfair competition affects the market and can reduce the inventiveness from new and small studios. Last year, for example, Disney made a contract "forcing" theaters to keep The Last Jedi in their biggest screen for 4 weeks, otherwise, theaters would have to pay a 5% fine of Jedi's box office. Actions like this are not good for the industry. Now imagine what Disney would do with almost 40% of the market... Disney is not the only one who needs to make money to pay their bills and employees. Theaters and other studios also need it.

It is a giant American industry and reducing the number of movie could have economic impact, they did it for TV that became massively regulated:

Vertical Integration and Program Access in the Cable Television Industry

Your are right about the movie making part too, but there is a reason many of the piece that Fox didn't include in the deal was not included in the deal, too make it easier on the competition law front.

Justice Department Challenges AT&T/DirecTV’s Acquisition of Time Warner:

https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-challenges-attdirectv-s-acquisition-time-warner

According to the complaint, which was filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, the combined company would use its control over Time Warner’s valuable and highly popular networks to hinder its rivals by forcing them to pay hundreds of millions of dollars more per year for the right to distribute those networks.

Movies Studio became extremely regulated in 1948 ending the golden age and making possible independent movie (and weakened the government censorship of movies at the same time):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Paramount_Pictures,_Inc.

Making a lot of movies is one thing and it does not necessarily matter, but because they are also owning the mean of distributing such movie and having the gatekeeper power of privileging their own movies they make on those massive distribution channel they will own, they will gain the power to reduce the competition by making it harder for other movie producer to reach an audience.

Nah, just making a joke about the guy's total ignorance of what the anti trust laws say.

Someone once said that if people pontificating about things they know nothing about were to be magically banned from the internet, internet traffic would go down at least 50%.I think the guy was underestimating...

I despise Trump with a passion, but from all I have read the deal was carefully and delibertly written to not violate the Anti Trust laws.

It would probably be approved no matter who is in the White House.
