Blankments
"Let the past die." Star Wars: The Last Jedi is insane. So much happens in this movie, but it doesn't feel overstuffed. The characters are tested time and time again, and prevail despite desperate odds. The rules of the universe are rewritten in an utterly spectacular sense. In a lot of ways it doesn't feel like Star Wars. Paradoxically, this makes it feel more like Star Wars than Star Wars has been since 1980. It's a shock to the senses, a reminder of when blockbusters took gung-ho risks at the beginning and just kept running until the end. Johnson's direction and script is key to its success. He did not ask what audiences wanted out of a sequel to The Force Awakens. He asked what did the characters need, no matter how frustrating that might be fans. This has already proven to be a divisive film, and you'll discover early on if you're on board with what Johnson is doing or not. If you're not, you'll call it utter sacrilege. If you are, you'll enjoy the most risk-taking installment in all ten Star Wars films. With higher risk comes higher reward. There's a ton more to say about The Last Jedi, but I know I'll revisit this multiple times in theaters, so I'll hold off on talking about other aspects until then. For now, the past Star Wars has died, the one in danger of falling into dull spin-offs and predictable mainline entries for years to come. The new one lives though, one with a clear ending in sight and a promising new story awaiting afterwards. For the first time since Disney purchased Lucasfilm, a truly new hope exists. HeyItsMoses
i was really hoping for snoke to be the big bad villain in the final entry, but they just killed him off. such a waste of potential. wasn't he supposed to have this giant story arc? so now we got kylo and rey as the only jedi left, and we're gonna see them dual? that's pretty fuckin lame. best part of the movie, visually, was when the ship went lightspeed into the other ship. absolutely stunning!

DAR
Finally saw overall I loved it. Here’s a few things that didn’t work for me -Benecio Del Toro was kind of a blah -Nothing really became of Phasma or for that matter.. -Supreme Leader Snoke. I knew Sheev Palpatine, you sir are no Sheev Palpatine +/- Leia floating in space. It won’t be looked on as the strongest moment but it didn’t bug me enough + I loved Luke in the movie. He wasn’t ruined at all and I thought his sacrifice was very moving +Rey not being related to anyone we know. It’s a giant galaxy not Kentucky + Kylo Ren is proving is proving to be one of the most complex villains in SW + The rest of the cast worked really well together. I didn’t feel anyone gave a bad performance. Even Dominhall Gleason was delightfully hammy and cheese + John Williams enough said + Not everything hit but overall the humor worked + The opening battle was one of the best in the series. And I thought it really lead to just how desperate things were for the Resistance + Luke and Yoda’s scene together + Finally it accomplished three things. I want to watch it again. I can’t wait for Episode IX. And give Rian Johnson as much money as you want Disney

IndustriousAngel
7/10 B/B+ Overstuffed and maeandering along an unsure trajectory, but the emotional core elements were in place and the production values were as good as expected. MinaTakla
Meh. Overlong, badly acted, some good and bad scenes, a mix of un-ncessary sub-plot points. 5/10 C 1
Blankments
"We are what they grow beyond." Star Wars: The Last Jedi is brilliant. A meditation on nostalgia, modern blockbuster filmmaking, and expectations, Johnson spends the first hour slowly deconstructing the foundations of modern blockbusters while developing all six of its main characters. Then he delivers the pay-off comes and it's the most riveting a Star Wars film has ever been . If Star Wars was to remain vital, surprising, and as revolutionary as it was during the time of the original trilogy, the safety nets needed to be removed. Johnson blows these assumptions up with the verve of a fourth Death Star. We should always respect the old masters, but if we wish the new to match them, they must find their own way in the world. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a miracle in today's cineplexes, a truly auteur signature on the biggest franchise in the world, and one that realizes the saga doesn't belong to its characters. It belongs to us, and that is the only way to move forward. As close to a masterpiece a film like this can be. A
Omario
Saw it in 70mm Imax and was not disappointed. I really enjoyed this movie...But it didnt feel like i was watching Star Wars. Well, it did but at times it didnt. I feel everything was in order, the pacing, the action and the special effects (most of the time). Carrie gave a great final performance and her last scene with Hamill made my eyes water. I was just disappointed with the direction of Lukes character arc. Luke is hope. He managed to bring Darth Vader back to the light...fucking Vader! You telling me he gave up and went emo cos Ben Solo got corrupted? Nah sorry i cant buy that. Hamill did a fantastic job though in this movie. Rey, i just love her. She is great. Kylo can suck dick. Actually he was better in this movie lol. He grew on me. Finn and Rose worked well and Poe is the man. As for Snoke. What a complete let down. No other words to describe it. Just absolutely pointless having him in the new movies. Why did they even create him? No backstory or anything. Everyone wants to know where another Sith lord popped up from. Master and his apprentice. Thats how the dark side works. Who was his master. Questions we will never get the answer to. Where were the other Knights of Ren? They are supposed to be force users too. The red guards were awesome! So at the end its clear Rey and Kylo are not as powerful as Anakin. As Snoke is still trying to create a Vader. We are shown that they do not need to be. Which puts my mind to rest abit. I just cant deal with another chosen one story. That kid at the end with the broom. Gangster Luke joining the force was bittersweet. Goodbye buddy. B+/A- I wanted to see Luke use his Green saber at the end Edited January 2, 2018 by Omario

narniadis
Finally saw it. It is a tad long and as others have stated the whole Finn/Rose / casino subplot could have been done away with, particularly since DelTorro was pretty much wasted as a character. Enjoyed it, need a 2nd viewing to catch what I missed. B+
