Dont exaggerate. Theres like only one person who thinks its disappointing.

I was one of the posters who thought 100M was possible for this. But 81M+ is still absolutely great for an Ant-Man movie, especially after the deluge of huge blockbusters weve gotten in the last weeks.

Looked like more than one person, even in the first pages of this thread.

The only way in which AM&TW's number is disappointing is if you thought it was gonna open to GOTG2 numbers. Since anyone with a half decent attention span could see that was not going to happen, it could really only be Thrylos shocked that an Ant-Man sequel isn't a 150M opener. Then again, what to expect of someone who ridiculously thinks a 2B WW maker is a box office disappointment.

Either way, it's hard to gauge what this is going to make, but I'm guessing it could have a surprisingly strong Saturday hold, or it could go the Homecoming route. Whatever the case, it's a smash hit nonetheless.

Ant-Man & The Wasp A- for a cinascore

Marvel's lowest CS score since Thor: The Dark World which also got an A-. Interesting

Might be, that some of the more casuald got disappointed, that it's not a direct sequel to the Infinity War.

Tbh I’m not surprised, after the movie I felt it was about in line with the dark world quality wise, by far it’s the weakest film marvel has put out in phase 3 imo(not looking to fight with people, that’s just my opinion). This is a movie I’ll watch once more once I buy it but will never watch it again.

New update from Deadline says it's now on pace for 82 million.  Not sure what that translates to for Friday.

https://deadline.com/2018/07/ant-man-and-the-wasp-opening-box-office-overperform-marvel-1202422128/

4TH UPDATE, Friday 11:44 PM: Refresh for chart Overall a respectable opening for Disney/Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp this weekend with projections currently showing an $81.5M 3-day which is 42% higher than the original title’s $57.2M opening. In addition Wasp‘s ticket sales are besting the low-end of tracking’s $75M forecast.

I guess my gut has been a good predictor for this movie...

did someone on the last page seriously just ponder the possibility of Hotel Transylvania 3 pulling Ice Age sequels numbers OS

Especially when it’s facing I2 in many markets.

So Ant Man 2 is the best reviewed blockbuster on the Tomato Meter since Black Panther in %age, not avg ?

I2 doesn't count, it s animation.

If it goes up like Ice Age, maybe it could reach 800m OS, but I think it will perform more along the lines of Madagascar at best.

I've seen people who were adamant that I2 wasn't even going to crack 800M WW (they're delusional ofc). What makes you think HT3 has any chance of doing 800M OS? I'm all for bold predictions, but this seems a little outrageous.

I don't know the HT comparisons OS off the top of my head but I remember Ice Age 3 pushing something like 800 total.  With today's expansions, it would be unheard of but not impossible for HT3 to show up and do a three-quarters billion OS and a quarter domestic.

And especially when the original to sequel OS bump wasn’t as big as IA2.
