Agreed. Cinderella #1, Aladdin #2.

Cinderella is the only good one and it's more serviceable than anything. I'd actually maybe even take Oz over the rest. At least it's loopy fun in spurts. Aladdin just left me dead flat. Honestly shocked that folks seemed to like it but to each their own. Alice is bad too. Of Maleficent counts, it's weak too. Dumbo looks the best but it's empty.

Correct, but its very very rare and typically only for WB (who also tends to do the estimates on weekdays before their actuals). However, the way the question was asked was definitely about todays numbers - as written - which I think is where the problem came in at.

Fair enuf then. 👍 When I first looked at this initial post I thought that was what they were asking after.  But I had just woken up so I might have misread it.

And thanks for the info on updated estimates.  I thought it was a tiny bit more prevalent than that, so thanks for the clarification. :)

@Charlie Jatinder and @Rthroar I’ve been wondering how does the country of Barbados count towards box office. I’m going there in a few weeks and want to know is it folded in domestic numbers or Latin America? Also what is the biggest movie there and this year if possible?

Barbados falls under Trinidad & Tobago(as does several other islands) there's only a couple cinemas there.

TS4 holds are truly impressive, it’s definitely surpassing TS3 now, probably will be at around $ 395M by this Sunday or more.

$ 430M is on cards, $ 1B seems kinda locked too despite not being sure if can beat TS3 worldwide too.

Not "kinda locked". It is locked. The remaining grosses from Dom + Japan + the upcoming Germany and Scandinavian countries alone will ensure that this cross the billie.

30 screens is crazy.

I go to #3 and #4 most frequently.

So AMC Empire + Regal across the street combined would be #1?

Aladdin got decimated on screens, if not theaters.  At least locally it did.

Plus the double feature effect went to TS4 this time around.  Those two reasons might be explanation enough.

Makes no sense. TS4 never should have been paired with TLK. Oh well Aladdin did awesome

It seems that Aladdin (unusually for a Disney release) was hurt rather than helped by the arrival of a new Disney film. Of course, Toy Story 4 (perhaps also Avengers: Endgame) may be the reason why this happened, but Disney has been able to "help" multiple films simultaneously before. I wonder whether the "Disney effect" might materialise next week, as it did with Beauty and the Beast (which dropped -25.5% when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opened, but then -5.5% a week later).

Remember when slop2 had a 5% Friday increase when TS4 opened? That's called "hurt".

If TLK follows the trajectory of TS4, it has a good shot at reaching $650 million. Considering that it will probably make around 35% domestic, it could top $1.8 billion WW.

TS4 could end up around $430-$435 million domestic. $1 billion is almost guaranteed.

SM:FFH should get to a billion, what, next week? Not sure about $400 million domestic but $380 million looks likely.

I thought Cinderella was ok but then again the original is probably like 20th on my animated list behind almost everything I can think of. No way on Earth kids liked it more.

Audience liked it less than the critics and it's legs weren't as good as Aladdin despite a much smaller opening.

Neither one has anything to shoot for and TS4 was newer.

Aladdin might have made sense from a thematic/branding point of view.  But I guess newer/more recent won out over branding.

To put the more recent thing in a different light, TS4, being newer,  was more likely to still bring in eyeballs on the side than Aladdin.  Makes at least a little bit of sense to me.

Yeah I just meant audience wise and live action. It's fine. I want TS4 to do well too. Might as well get it over TS3

Yes re Empire + Regal

There are around 10 30-plexs (Ontario Mills 30 + Palace 22, 52 screens total and they are pretty much across road from each other)

Burbank 30 is actually 3 separate complexes treated as  one. They are basically in the same shopping precinct two are across from each other(Burbank 16, Burbank Town Centre 6 & Burbank Town Centre 8 )

I don't disagree with what the audience liked. I just didn't like it. Honestly, maybe my least favorite Disney remake. Get totally that other love it. That's cool. Truly haven't really liked any of these remakes of animated classics much. BUT glad they're propping up the box office. Well, not Dumbo. But the others have for sure.
