Yes. This very forum exists because IMDB blew away the Mojo forums... in 2011. But we kinda forgot the longer-term implications of that — the writing was on the wall, we just ignored it (understandably).

Not only was the writing on the wall, but they've now trained us to expect something bad in October.

October 2011: death of Derby and forums

October 2017: "mysterious" 24-hour disappearance

October 2019:  redesign and data gutting

The good question tend to be, this make the site more monetizable how ? For some feature missing that are not behind IMDBpro could just be temporary.

Does anyone had some program using the API, do they still work like before ?

I was not aware of a BOM API.  You sure the had one?

I think so, there were project like those:

https://github.com/skozilla/BoxOfficeMojo

I never used it, but I downloaded and used made by people dataset of mojo from memory, bo/main top 6 cast/etc... for every movie (could have been made with a web scrapper thought I guess.

Don’t disagree about any of this. But I reiterate that taking a step back from the numbers is probably best for all of us.

If we can't compare movies box office numbers how will we know which movies are good?🤔

I was kinda hoping they'd cave after all the negativity and change it back.

Nah, I think they assumed there would be an uproar but then after a few months it would die down.

Mojo/IMDB probably felt pressure to show that they are not a cost center for the parent organization (and thus more likely to get axed).

Mojo went offline for a few days in October 2014 as well. It was the Dracula Untold weekend.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but there's not even a way to view YTD grosses for a specific date anymore... unless I'm overlooking it?

You're able to see monthly YTD, but not specific dates.

This would have been a huge project, but I am thinking we needed to collect all the box office data during some of the previous suspicious activity. The 2017 crash in particular. Once it came back online, save every piece of data...build a clone website from there. Hindsight is 20/20.

It's been a great 10 years. I first visited BOM in January 2010 just out of curiosity to find out how much money Avatar was making. I got sucked in ever since. But all good things come to an end. Goodbye, Box Office Mojo. It was great for as long as it lasted.
