Good numbers for 1917 and Just Mercy.

 

Rise of Skywalker running total will likely fall behind Rogue One on Sunday. Still headed for a 500-510M finish unless it crashes next week with theater loss.

Considering Jojo Rabbit lost about 40% of its screens this weekend, that's a pretty great hold from an inflated Friday last week. 

If it gets some Oscar nomination love on Monday, I really hope it gets an expansion. It's a great film, and I would love to see it finish with 30 million+

Seems like it was intended specifically for that. 

reviews called it a Lifetime movie. Mind you, audience laps up "brave lawyer saves wrongly accused from the death row" stories, and this one isn't an exception, but the movie played at some big festivals and reviews were meh, basially saying it wasn't elevated from Lifetime cliche. 

 

Joker was indeed WB's main Oscar play but that one also won Venice which gave it prestige. Just Mercy couldn't muster even TIFF Audience award which is considered very close to AMPAS taste (Jojo won, with Marriage Story and Parasite as second and third runner up). 

 

There's nothing wrong with studio realizing their Oscar bait is only a commercial play and re-branding it as such.  Foxx could sneak in due to wide openness of the 5th spot in Supporting.

I get 5.8 with +120% Sat & -30% Sun using the weekend patterns of F1 vs. F2.

F1's Friday jumps were always much bigger, so this Fri number for F2 is reasonable if somewhat underwhelming. Big theater drop didn't help it either.

Sat jump should be close to F1's +129% and Sun will be likely better than -37.3%.

Weird (to me) mix of higher than expected Friday increases and lower ones.... didnt expect SW to go up so much but Jumanji wasnt as high as I had hoped (nor was Frozen). 

🤷‍♂️ expectations are nothing more than ultimately guesses lol. 

Solid for 1917 and Just Mercy - hopefully the rest of the month is as solid.
