The title of SCREAM 2022 that was on early drafts of the script (before the studio decided to pull a HALLOWEEN) was SCREAM FOREVER :)

Followed by SCREAM & ROBIN

Hmm. Paramount can have a nice year.

MI7, Sonic 2, Top Gun 2 & Scream looking solid opening. If A Quiet Place 2 was releasing this year, probably could have shot a Billion Dollar at DOM BO.

It is a long shot, but if Indian remake of FG works well in China, they can have $200M+ WW from that.

I wonder why horror of all the other genres has had no issue in the pandemic

Being able to have an outlet to relieve angst/demos of people who traditionally go to horror films are probably high on the list of reasons.

I think Horror & CBM were the two genres that released films which wouldn't have flopped pre pandemic as well.

All the other films would have probably flopped during 2019 as well I guess.

I never realized Scream wasn't THAT big. I know 4 flopped but still"

1- 103m

2- 101m

3- 89m

4-38m

But of course, yeah.. horror wasn't that big in 90s anymore, especially slashers. 4 was too long and 3 was poor. And first 2 had December legs.

I think the new one can reach the first. It'll come close IMO.

Taking it over here where it's more appropriate and to give you a bit of education, because you need to account for inflation.

Scream adjusts to 208.6M in today's money. Scream 2 to about 201.6M. Even Scream 3 is about 151.5M. Even in a post-Conjuring/Peele world, these grosses are hard to reach for horror. And the first Scream came at a time when horror was all but dead at the box office. I kind of understand your point, but it's not really 1:1 to compare this stuff.

Well yeah, of course. I did not even account for inflation or large format theaters

I have no idea where that money went for Scream 4. It looked like a TV movie

I’d guess maybe salaries? I read Neve and Courteney got $7m and $5m for Scream 3. Maybe the main 3 have taken a Jamie Lee Curtis type deal on this one.

Just saw the fourth one and it's such a strong return to form after three. 10 fucking minutes in and it has managed to parody the opening of the first one, comment on the Scary Movie parodies, the torture-porn subgenre of the 2000s, the Scream franchise's own legacy, the needless horror sequels and remakes, modern technology's affect on the genre, and also digs at Jason X and Scream 3. The supporting characters, & the third act reveal are the best they've been since the first film, and damn it's so much more alive than a legacy sequel has a right to be.

Indeed visually though it oddly tries to go for the Kamiński cinematic glow but occasionally looks like cheap video despite being shot on film.

Probably. FWIW the trio got top billing on the 4th one while for this one, Arquette and Cox are getting "With" billing while Campbell is getting the "And" credit in the marketing materials that have been released. That's one way of negotiating when you're working on a project with a much smaller budget.
