Hard to believe that F9 drop only 20% on Sunday and give extra 40k come above 70m. But I remember when TF4 fudged the number to above 100m, the entire town came to smoke Paramount out, this isn't happening now so the number should be accurate this round right? The soft sunday drop was probably due to the fact that F9 wasn't up from True Friday, leaving Saturday number lower and therefore little room to drop.

To be honest, I suspect a large chunk of the box office community not only has little appetite to smoke out such fudging right now, they might actually welcome a few white lies here and there, given the state of the industry with COVID still in the picture, if receding into the distance.

 

This isn't to say that Universal is fudging.  Just that there aren't as many folks who actually care enough to try and "smoke it out", as you put it, as there usually are.

What we found with Coco was that a movie which specifically draws a high percent of Hispanic audiences does better than most movies for holds on Sundays...F9 would fit that bill, so I don't think it was fudge...

 

Final Deadline %s for OW audience breakdown had Hispanics as the highest %..."There’s always a diverse pull with the Fast & Furious movies, and this one was 37% Hispanic, 35% Caucasian,16%  Black and 8% Asian/other."
