This is actually doing solid, or at least solid in comparison to my low expectations. Should land around $5M when all is said and done.

I see Bob Marley opening to ~$8M on Valentine's Day, which is actually quite sublime for a film of its kind. Obviously it will be very frontloaded, but I can't say this hasn't been an interesting one to track.

It seems that OL will be an one day movie event like it was TCP.

One day movie events like TCP and OL may be becoming more common from now on

FINAL SOLD NOTES: "Final sold" is the number of tickets sold for the movie in question at stop of tracking while "% of final" is the percentage of Dune: Part Two's current tickets sold versus that final number.

===

Got to admit I am fairly surprised at how well Dune: Part Two did locally in the face of so much local competition (fun fact, when I went on my dinner run during OT, streets were abnormally deserted as was the store I stopped quickly at as well as the restaurant where I got dinner).  Yet here we are.

Maybe all those movie trailers reminded folks about D2 in sort of weird halo effect way?  Banner ads hitting phones thanks to targeted advertising from tracking algorithms? ...  Yeah, I gots nothing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Whatever the reason, this is the best day of sales since T-31 (fifth day of pre-sales).

Madame Web reviews are now available on internet and there’s no consensus about it. While some people call it the worst CBM ever, others say it’s a fantastic movie. it’s been fun to follow them. It seems pretty divisive.

I’ll watch it only on VDay, so I have no opinion yet. However, as reviews have influence over box office, I select some of them to show how divisive it seems to be. I’m really curious about the early Rotten Tomatoes score!!!!!

#MadameWeb is totally fine. There’s really not a lot to say here. By[@JamesPPoole](https://x.com/jamesppoole/status/1757291067840282988?s=46&t=sj3jc4WiXn-J0cj43toUUg)

#MadameWeb is an embarrassing mess. Talented stars wasted on probably the worst comic book movie I have ever seen. Filled with atrocious dialogue, awkward editing, & all around laughable structure.

Low sales day, likely due to no Superbowl ad (although, that counters what we saw in Sacramento). Funnily enough, I saw a trailer for Dune yesterday on TV when watching a replay of a Saturday night hockey game.

I'll be getting HG:BoSS coming online for a comp later in the week. As a shorter sales period (that was more drawn out), that's probably going to be a tricky comp, but, book based franchise flicks, it's among my better options.

Still marching along.

I asked this question yesterday, but, I'll throw it up here again. Has anyone heard of any specific organization around this film to make it a big group event, or is this front loading all organic. With TCP , there were church groups booking up theatres from what I understand, that contributed to that first day gross. Is there anything similar here?

Digging into the local demographics yesterday made me realize that the the large Jamaican heritage population in this area is probably helping to drive up numbers. I also think that there's a stronger Valentine's Day effect here impacting this and MW.

Friday - 11186/587800 190025.38 2740 shows +1129

Very good increase for this movie as well. Let us how final  2 days of PS and then walkups go. 4m+ look likely unless walkups are terrible.

Madame Web MTC1 VD - 38539/640134 631016.73 3284 shows +7391

Again the increase looks really good. Let us see how it finishes. If only it was not a turd. They could have leveraged the sex appeal of Dakota/Sydney and it would have done well. Instead we get a bland mess. That said OD BO wont be too bad. its just going to collapse post that.

I’m fully on board the Bob Marley over 10M OD train. I really think this will play like the next All Eyez on Me, although I hope it can total 60M or so, since the box office is so dire.

Madame Webb doesn’t look terrible for OD, I’ll go 5-6M but yea it’s going to collapse hard after that.

Times have shifted a good deal over the past few years, but I remember Holmes & Watson, having not been screened in advance for critics, having a 6M OD on Christmas and then dropping so hard after that.

It takes place in the late 70s, early 80s and costs more than actual period films

The late 70s/early 80s are now far enough in the past that making a project set during that era will naturally be expensive, especially if we're talking any part of the entertainment industry. One day it's going to cost a pretty penny to recreate the 2010s.

But also as @Cmasterclay pointed out, the sets also mean recreating concerts where you'll have to pay and costume hundreds (thousands?) of extras unless you go the Bohemian Rhapsody route and create a mostly CGI audience. That's naturally going to balloon the budget a bit.
