Weekend Thread: Weekend Actuals: IO 29.77, JW 29.24, TG 27.02, | IO Wins Weekend!

I'm loving Spy's run.

It's having a great run after everyone wrote it off with its softer-than-expected opening. Given that another great hold is coming next week, $115-120M total is still possible. Awesome.

Fox too. Fantastic Four 2 for 2017. I have noticed whenever studio does that, the movie ends up flat out flopping or bombing. These studios are driven by egoistic assholes.

are you on drugs or something? I see no correlation between setting the release for future sequels in advance and "egoistic assholes" executives

It's gonna be kinda sad watching the reign of these two monsters end next weekend lol. Oh well, there's still plenty more left to be made!

JP4 will benefit from double features with Minions at drive-in theaters. Plus the deflated July 4th weekend should help JP and IO next weekend.

(on the ship of titanic)

Sir! Up ahead!

What?!? An icerburg???

No! A Dinosaur straight ahead!

Wish there was a meme for this

Well to be fair, the dinosaurs did get crushed by the same ship in 1997. TLW was expected to be the biggest movie of all time and the first movie to hit a billion dollars WW. Clearly that didn't happen and Titanic rubbed salt into JP's wounds.

JW would be avenging JP2's abysmal defeat in 1997 in a way (although not worldwide)

JURASSIC WORLD ($30.9) wins today over INSIDE OUT ($30.1M) but various studios have it closer than that...stay tuned for tomorrow.

Gonna be a tight race no matter what.

But Universal usually undershoots so hopefully this week isn't an exception.

At least TASM had a sequel. No way in hell is Genisys getting a sequel.

Sony started planning ASM3 and ASM4 right before ASM2 was released.

ASM2 didn't do well and Sony was forced to do another reboot instead of ASM3.

So which one of you runs jurassicworld.org?

Jurassic World 2 script in by August - Will move forward under Spielberg's approval

Well, it seems as though the Jurassic World sequel news/ rumours are starting to come out slowly. This update comes from user "spatulashack" from the Box Office Theory forums, who is known to have provided accurate information many times in the past.

Agreed. It's natural to have something ready, at least a treatment just in case a film breaks out. That way you can get screenwriters on it ASAP without diving into the development process and can churn a sequel out much quicker. That's why they were able to have TASM 2 out so quickly, and such.

There definitely are treaments for a Genysis sequel at Paramount right now. They just... won't be made instead.
