F9 has a 59% RT score? How the hell did that happen?

F9 is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Critics really went easy on that thing.

Yeah this franchise doesn't get scrutinized like other big ones. Critics been on "it's just schlock!" train for too long which is now hurting these movies.

Ive been saying for a while, this things gonna lose money barring a billion dollar overperformance (which isn't happening). BUT if it does around F9 or better AND audience reception is stronger then yeah Fast X2 is in the can 100%. They're not gonna cancel the entire series off this losing money bc of its budget. They can blame the inflated budget on the director switch and production issues. Lower budget on 11 + finale boost = $$$.

I'd argue they're generally well made action films from a technical standpoint and deliver what people want. Not really striving more than popcorn thrills so you're not gonna scrutinize it as much as a blockbuster like The Batman or whatever.

The movies getting mostly good reviews actually only started with the fifth movie. 1-4 are all from 55 to like 28

Fast Five was a perfect moment when (most) of the cast, the filmmakers, critics, and audiences all got on the same wavelength about what these movies are all about. Vin Diesel still remains the only holdout who thinks this is high art Oscar worthy stuff. Everyone else is just having fun.

From a german film review (YouTube) for this movie:

"Fast and Furious has finally turned into a complete porn movie: But instead of boobs and asses, theres explosions and even more explosions."

The early WOM here in Malaysia looks solid too and yes, the ending was the part that people talked about. F9 made negligible money here in Malaysia as Delta wave was hitting hard when F9 debut. That F9 "absence" IMO actually retain some freshness out of this franchise.

I guess we will see Fast Y and Fast Z after all, forming an Fast X Y Z trilogy.

FX-2 is happening no matter what, they'll just get the budget in check. They're not ending this franchise on a cliffhanger ending, get real folks. With a finale effect the gross will probably be relatively stable for the next entry so even if it only does 600 WW, which this probably isn't landing much below even in the worst case scenario, as long as they have the budget in check next time it'll probably atleast break even so they can give it a decent ending instead of having the fanbase turn on them for the inevitable nostalgia reboot/sequel down the line.

Money bags don't care about fanbase feelings or cliffhanger ending, they'll just cancel it if it does 500-600 mln range and put it to rest till future reboot. They are not gonna swallow loses like this and pretend it's ok. And reducing budget to at the very least 200 mln in this case is a tall order, you have to ask the entire cast to reduce their salaries and maybe drop a couple of members, do you expect them to agree to do that? Personally I really doubt that, only Vin thinks this is some kind of great work of art that deserves awards.

He's also very mad at the PGA not giving him a credit. He's still a producer, but he specifically wants a "Vin Diesel p.g.a" credit which you only get for creative involvement.

Come on guys, this is still one of Universal's main franchises. It's not getting fucking Divergent'd. It simply is not going to happen. But I also don't think Vin's dream third part is not happening either. He'll get to end it on the next film and everyone will move on.

Momoa is what these films have been missing forever: a flamboyant supervillain and all-round chaos merchant, who likes to perch on the tallest landmarks and dial in carnage.

Everyone is raving about Momoa. It's as if no one else exists in the movie. Take that Oscar winners, all 5-6-7 of you! :hahaha:

I remember reading the concern back in October 2021 over whether Legendary could justify greenlighting Dune's second part. Was the international gross and high critical acclaim enough to pass?
