Well, given that I predicted it would to about $70m less on opening weekend and about $350m less domestic, I would say that I never thought it had The Force Awakens hype.

ULTRON finished with 68 sellouts / 748 showtimes. It grossed 27.6m in previews

 

TFA finished with 441 sellouts / 969 showtimes. It grossed 57m in previews.

 

Breakdown:

2D: 72 / 391

3D: 22 / 213

IMAX: 13 / 46

PLF: 12 / 23

D-BOX/4DX: 2 / 4 

 

Unless Los Angeles is significantly over-performing the rest of the country, high-20s seems like an absolute low-end. Low-30s -- maybe 30-32m? -- sounds like a good guess.

 

20% ahead of BvS would put it at $33m. Somewhere in that neighborhood sounds about right and would be a great start.

It gets really complicated. This is much more for fans, and also much less for kids and families. But spinoffs are unpredictable and the snowstorm and holiday season add in very large variance.

90% of the estimates for the final gross in @Christmas Baumerthread are under $525m. The consensus weeks ago was 40%+ drop from TFA.

I am not sure why people expect more.

 

Also I do not see RO is an indication that SW8 is going to collapse.

 

Remember TPM and AOTC drop off was 28%...

IF that 30m number holds, it might actually follow what international markets show: Huge presales but not many tickets sold additionally.

That's how it looks like in Germany. 

Would also fit in the history of SW-Presales in the Past. Remember Ep. 3 holding the Midnight record for 3 years.
