I still can barely wrap my head around the rocketship success that is IW.  Biggest grossing MCU movie is nothing... biggest grossing superhero movie is amazing.  And it will be right around 1.8b WW by the end of the 3rd weekend.  I never thought that was going to happen, not this fast.  Marvel Studios must be throwing constant parties now with the most expensive liquor they can get.

 

Even if it stopped there, which it won't, it would be a legendary success worth celebrating.  Speaks volumes to the fact that they have basically pulled this off:  building up a "cinematic universe" concept, having it culminate after 10 years in one movie, their biggest and most successful movie ever.  It was an improbable plan that shouldn't have worked.  It hasn't worked for anyone else, not like this.

 

The massive opening weekends across multiple markets, setting records all over, its just incredible.

 

This is also a death knell for anyone hoping or expecting Marvel to make radical changes to its formula.  Why would they?  New characters are fine, tweaks are good.  But this works, it's full steam ahead.  The BO and positive WOM is going to cement this method to their madness for the next decade.

It looks to be a tight race for 2B.

 

OS - China is headed for 1000-1010M.

 

DOM is looking to do 660M and China 340-350M.

 

This weekend drop will give us a pretty good idea.

 

If IW can do 30M DOM + 40M OS + 50M China this weekend, then 2B will be locked.

Comparing to Tuesday's $17m, that's a 50% drop which is excellent. Will drop a little tomorrow as Deadpool opens in U.K. and maybe others. Also DP2 opens in SK on Wednesday which will see a significant dip, as SK had $0.9m of that $8.5m!
