The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

I think the biggest hurdle it faces is that there have already been famous versions of this story both in animation (the classic which continues to be aired annually of course) and on the big screen (the Jim Carrey box office smash which wasn't even 20 years ago and is also somewhat of a TV staple) and this doesn't look to offer anything particularly innovative. $45-50M opening could still lead to $200M+ but I'm feeling the grosses will be closer to the last animated Dr. Seuss adaptation (The Lorax with $214M) than to the Despicable Me flicks or The Secret Life of Pets or even Sing.

Would $40-50m be considered a disappointment? It's on the low end for Illumination but it's standard for most animated films. The tricky thing for The Grinch is that it'll decline rapidly once Christmas is over and also Dr Seuss doesn't do well OS but I think it'll gross more than The Lorax.

I would say that number definitely puts 30M on the table for nutcracker.

ok to be fair probably closer to 40 and less likely 50 but still

Theater has posted their full schedule: Bohemian Rhapsody on 3 screens (plus the small VIP theater upstairs), Nutcracker on 2 screens, Nobody's Fool on 2 screens, Can You Ever Forgive Me? (which is actually getting the biggest non-PLF auditorium), and Suspiria (which is unsurprisingly being stuck in one of the smallest auditoriums).
