The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

Pulse always 8:35-8:49 EST:

The LEGO Movie 2: 120/15 minutes - Ralph II (56.2M OW) had 52/15 at the same time on a Monday (Wednesday release) so this is very good
What Men Want: 44/15
Cold Pursuit: 27/15 - Miss Bala had 6/15 at that time, Widows 27/15, Hunter Killer 12/15
The Prodigy: 4/15

And Pulse always 10:35-10:49 EST:

The LEGO Movie 2: 113/15 minutes - Ralph II had at that time on Monday 130/15; so Lego 2 had the much better start today but is at the moment a little bit behind Ralph II
What Men Want: 52/15 - not bad but after the last days I thought that the number would be higher; unfortunately I have no exact data from Night School and The Upside isn't the best comparison but that movie had at the same time but on Thursday 130/15, probably WMW is still a bit behind tomorrow
Cold Pursuit: 25/15 - Miss Bala had 10/15 at that time, Widows 34/15, Hunter Killer 19/15, Serenity 20/15 - before I counted the second time today (10:35-10:49) I would have said it should do better than 7-10M but now, no idea, probably tomorrow we get a clearer picture
The Prodigy: 10/15 - ca. on par with what Slender Man was doing at that time (but that film improved on Thursday, maybe it's the same here).

So from these I'd say LEGO is heading towards mid-50s, WMW around 25, Cold Pursuit around 12, and prodigy 5-7

Maybe people are confusing it with the music group and accidentally clicking on it. Does a view count if you only watch like 5 seconds?

I don't think so because I searched "The Prodigy" on Youtube and the trailer didn't show up, only videos from the music group, and I had to type "The Prodigy trailer" to see the videos related to the movie.

The high view count could be because the studio may have promoted the trailer as an ad playing in front of other videos on Youtube.

Soooo, everything is getting okay'ish reviews now - Prodigy has a rotten Tomatometer, but its reviews aren't actually terrible as much as average/middling; What Men Want is getting decently reviewed as well; and the wom for Lego 2 and Cold Pursuit is good. We might be in for a breakout weekend.

Also I just noticed on BOM that in three weeks Focus has elevated Greta (campy Neil Jordan-directed thriller starring Isabelle Huppert and Chloe Grace Moretz) to wide release, however many theaters that means (I'm guessing 1,000). Hopefully it doesn't flop too hard.

161% of Christopher Robin (39.5M)

85% of The Grinch (57.6M)

272% of Bumblebee (59M)

It has come back to Earth a little bit, but still very impressive. 55M seems like the likely scenario here, which would be quite solid.

122% of I Feel Pretty (19.6M)

180% of Life of the Party (32.1M)

49% of Ocean's 8 (20.2M)

122% of A Simple Favor (19.6M)

152% of Night School (41.3M)

314% of Nobody's Fool (43.2M)

449% of Second Act (29.1M)
