There's no way to verify that.

The genre has been going strong for over a decade. Long before Deadpool.

But don't you see superhero movies need to be different otherwise their box office will fall, because well er, yeah (to be clear I like my superhero films to be different, I'm just pointing the absurdity of it).

Wonder Woman if it approaches 400 million it's legs will be around 4.0. Has any superhero movie ever done that good??

In the past most did yes when legs were really different, some small weekend movie did better too like Blade that was a bit above 4.0x, Batman Begins in 2006 did over 4 has well, superman return was not far.

Post Avengers it must be the best thought.

BB & SR opened on Wednesdays, so they really would have likely been 3 multipliers.

Both BB and Superman Returns were wed openers though. If they opened on Fri they would have fallen far short of 4x.

SM1, GOTG1 and WONDR are the only 3 Fri openers that did 3.5x+ post 2000.

Ant-Man, IM1 (even if you include the official Thu number in the weekend), TA1 crossed 3x.

If Baby Driver follows Transformers, this would be its weekend:

6M Wednesday

3.1M Thursday

5.2M Friday

6.6M Saturday

5.1M Sunday

17.9M 3 day, 27M 5 day

Of course, Baby Driver will have a soft Sunday drop due to Canadian holidays and sure as shit won't lose nearly half its business tomorrow. A 30M 5 day seems pretty set IMO.

For real?

It looks nothing like a 60M movie.

I don't know but depending of the month

in 2013 60 million US gave you between 520 to 600m South Africa Rand.

in 2016 60 million US gave you between 830 to 970m South Africa Rand.

Combined with a apparently:

he Foreign Film and Television Production and Post-Production Incentive offers:

• Shooting on location in South Africa, the incentive is 20% of the Qualifying South African Production Expenditure (QSAPE) - there is no cap for this incentive

Depending on how much was made in South Africa vs New York (that also has a nice tax credit incentive) a 60 million US in 2016 movie shot there, could be the equivalent of an 80m in 2013.

Exchange rate really does hurt global box office, but in the last year we do start to see some movie budget really benefiting from it, an extreme example being Inferno rumored at 75m net. That and the aggressiveness of jurisdiction of getting production.

That factor plus Tom Rothman and charge being usually aggressive on cost and the movie trailer not looking to have top end SFX and production overall (it does seem really on the cheap side versus say Westworld on HBO), it is probably on the low/positive estimate side, but not necessarily that out of the possible range.

Trailer was spectacular !

Movie looks amazing.

Said no one ever.

Whenever I get the trailer (like I did today), I just go "Next!" It elicits nothing from me whatsoever. Maybe Sony can make a new trailer to attach with Spider-Man that looks better.

That 60m number probably raised a bit because of reshoots, but 70-80m is totally plausible for The Dark Tower. Inferno only cost 75m and this looks like a similar scale, it doesn't look like a big explosions/spectacle/sets movie. If Dark Tower can do atleast 200 WW, then it'll be in good shape.

In the modern era, no major (i.e. $40+ million opening) superhero movie has done that well (and we're talking Friday openers only -- Wednesday openers are not possible to compare).

Guardians of the Galaxy holds the modern day record with a 3.53 multiplier in 2014.

Before that it was Spider-Man with a 3.52 multiplier in 2002.

If you go back into the 90s, Batman Returns achieved a 3.56 multiplier in 1992 (off a then all-time record opening weekend of $45.7 million), and before that Batman in 1989 achieved an insane multiplier of 6.20 (also off a then all-time opening weekend record of $40.5 million).

If you delve into smaller openers in the 90s, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle film and its sequel in 1990 & 1991 had big multipliers (5.32 and 3.93 respectively), as well as the original Blade film (4.11 multiplier), but again this was a different era and these are smaller openers ($25M, $20M, and $17M respectively, though I imagine still pretty substantive for their time - though again, films were leggier in general and even the largest opening weekends weren't as large, adjusted for inflation).

So it's hard to compare directly in terms of ALL-time, but to put it more succinctly: Wonder Woman is all but certain to best the multipliers of both Guardians of the Galaxy and Spider-Man (and even Batman Forever in '95) to have the best multiplier for a $40+ million opener since Batman in '89.

Pretty phenomenal run it is having, no matter how you slice it.

EDIT: The list again for those who want it (below in spoilers). Wonder Woman has already hit a 3.15 multiplier (with Tuesday's gross), in itself a relatively rare feat among comic book films.
