It's a real travesty when a film that's truly special releases and nobody goes to see it. It might not even be in the race for a BP nomination anymore. Detroit is an important film, yet nobody wants to even give it a chance. Fuck you America.

Take a look:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_viewed_online_trailers_in_the_first_24_hours

The 2nd place film is 58 million views behind it.  It doesn't just go ahead of many blockbuster films, it fucking obliterates them.  This isn't just average, everyday "oh don't trust the buzz."  This shit right here is far above that.

why is this a wikipedia article

I DON'T FUCKING KNOW BUT IT PROVES MY POINT SO I LIKE IT

Actually it doesn't. FB views have almost no corelation with OWs. YT views does. YT views are great but not most viewed in 24 hours. That's the difference b/w $60m OW and $100m. 'cos of that wiki article, don't go expecting $120m OW.

It's just the wrong time of year for a movie like this as a super wide release.  This is tough material to watch.   It needed an Awards push and WOM to drive it's box office.

Changing the race of your lead from white to black wasn't a big deal - Elba's casting got nothing but applauds. Personally... I am tired to seeing Elba (a fine actor) getting the Bruce Campbell/Nathan Fillion treatment by fandom and Social Media.

But making The Dark Tower insufferable to non-fans was their fatal mistake. Leaving last night's screening with my lovely love wife, I was reminded of Star Wars, Terminator and The Matrix. Very simple, easy to assess stories that were surrounded by a deeper mythology and world-building. The Dark Tower so desperately needed to be that and worst of all, it could have been given the kid as the audience avatar. Alas.

So around 18 mil for Dark Tower? Unless it really tanks tomorrow.

Around 17 mil for Dunkirk.

Will be close for the weekend for sure. I think they finish within 500k of each other either way.

I'm obviously not expecting 120M OW, but an 80M OW or so wouldn't surprise me in the slightest
