You and me both. I was always bullish from the beginning but never quite had nerve enough to go full tilt with 100M. My final prediction was 87.5. It's hard to ignore that cautious side.

 

But I have to echo the big congrats to everyone who went with their gut and went full in with the 100M predictions. What a great call! I'm so happy for this film's success. This and WW have truly made my year. As a long-time horror buff, it's so great to see an R-rated horror film reach this kind of audience.

IT isnt just a hard R property, but it's a hard R horror film.  It beat the horror OW record and September OW record in its OD.  It's also doing all of this in September, on NFL opening weekend, with a hurricane shutting down maybe 4-6% of its audience, while also not being a holiday weekend at all.

Honestly, I think Get Out might still be the BO story of the year. It's money making is nothing short of crazeballs, but tbh, I think many people expected it to be a huge hit after the trailer views dropped. Obviously, nobody thought it would get to 100M in 3 days (well, except Nova and a few others), but the buzz was very noteworthy. Whereas with Get Out, there were some people who didn't think this movie would do more than 30M DOM total, even though it had a strong trailer, and absolutely nobody expected its wom to be anywhere near as hypetastic as it was. And then it started dropping like an animated family movie with stupendous wom even though it was an R-rated horror movie (it dropped 27% in its 2nd weekend against another 80M+ R-rated opener in Logan, for God's sake!).

 

So yeah, I might still be inclined to say Get Out is the most insane BO story of the year because it was expected to do 2 cents and it ended up with over 170M DOM, but It is definitely up there. Funny how horror movies are the two top stories of the year so far (and Split is definitely another one; Annabelle roams the conversation too).

I still go with GET OUT being the story of the year, although IT and WW are very close to it.

 

(BATB not worth the discussion because IMO around 475M was the average predict).

Same, though usually with a heavier emphasis on the practicals with the CGI helping with certain characters or places that would otherwise be hard just with practicals. A good combination.

Now, if IT collapses after this I'll probably agree with you.  But 100m OW for an R horror film is really insanity.

I desperately wanted to predict 92mil but I couldn't even get that far, so 100mil was never going to be predicted by myself.

 

I'm ecstatic to see an out and out horror film do so well and a horror film that I love.

I think GET OUT's subject matter is less broadly appealing, and in time when a lot of people wanna ignore what's going politically in our country, a horror film that tackles what GET OUT does being as successful as it is is a lot more impressive than a Stephen King adaptation doing a ton

 

Not to disparage IT's success at all, it's just a much better bet on paper
