But when you pirate you don't go to the store to begin with. You don't go in and literally steal a disc. It's more the equivalent of borrowing it from someone, the only difference is that this someone is a stranger on the internet rather than your friend.

It's not borrowing when you do it without the content's owner authorization.

so if I own a DVD and authorise everyone on The Pirate Bay to download my copy of the DVD, its still "borrowing"?

In real life, when you borrow a film from a friend, they don't later distribute that film to thousands, maybe millions, of other people.

no, because when you buy physical media you own the disc, not the movie. you can lend your dvd to whoever you please tho.

if I own the disc, then I can do whatever I want with it right? SO I should be able to take stuff off the disc and distribute it to whoever, because I bought the disc legally. Whether it's the physical disc or the digital content on the disc is irrelevant as the content is part of the disc.

Some people just feel fucking entitled to watching movies for free.

I blame the mods for letting piracy talk continue instead of shutting it down 10 pages ago.

this is a movie discussion board, primarily one about cinema, and since piracy has a huge effect on cinema why can't it be discussed?

Hey guys...this is like reaaaaally OT (so sorry to the moderators and sorry to everyone) but i really need to talk about this and i leave alone so i don't know where else i can talk about it right now (since everyone i know probably sleeps) and i just want to get it out...

So i ran over a cat today and i feel like shit.Iniτιally i didn't stop eιther (they were telling me but i was like  "no way") but a friend of mine ,who was driving behind me,saw it and called me.I didn't saw the cat coming and i didn't know about it until after the call but when i reached the cat she was already dead.

Anyway,i feel shit for both killing a cat and not stopping to do whatever i could.Maybe i should even be feeling shit for looking for some kind of justification online that i am a good person (and i obviosuly  can't judge that). At the end of the day,now i have killd something. And this is the worst.

I understand that this is way OT and i will understand if it gets deleted but i guess it helps until mornign.

So, hitting an animal in the road doesn't make you Satan...it was a mistake...and yes, you did compound it by not immediately stopping to check (since it seems that wasn't hard and was safe to do so, since you did go back later)...so, you're human and you screwed up.  People do that.

It's how people fix their screw-ups that determines what type of person they are.  You went back and eventually checked the cat - that's good.  If the cat was owned, you should probably go to the owner to apologize profusely and offer to pay to replace it.  If it was a wild cat, maybe now is the time to see how you can help out a similarly-situated cat (like karma) - maybe volunteer at an animal shelter, adopt a shelter cat, or donate to your community's animal programs.

And if you were distracted by friends driving, it's another lesson to remember you have to focus on the road and not them - you got really lucky it was only a cat.  A kid could have just easily been the fast little thing running across the street.  So, take the event as a lesson to learn from and truly learn from it.  As you get older, you find out life gives you a lot of lessons along the way that you either learn from or continue to screw up - try the easier path:)...

No? Who told you that? The FBI requires a warning in front of all DVD's explicitly stating you can't do that.

There's an interesting case ongoing at the moment between Redbox and Disney.  It's about whether the physical disc and the attached download code for a digital copy are 1 product or 2.

Yep. There’s warnings that lending is not permitted here in the U.K. on discs.

It is so funny how dead on Empire City was when it came to Love Simon. He said it was tracking to do around 12mil and hadn't budged from that tracking and the film opened with 11.5mil. Sometimes films beat tracking of course but not this time.
