Weekend Thread: DHD Friday #'s (p.14) ~ The Megalogross 17M, Slenderman 4-5M, BlacKkKlansman 3.8-4M

JW2 audience score on rt is rottent too along with critics. Did not reflect in legs and is set for 2.8x multi. Meg is a  non-sequel and 2.5x doesn't seem far fetched. Mummy managed 2.5x a couple of years back. Not many films of this genre in theaters. That helped JW2 and Meg should have decent legs. China+Dom combined should be around 200 total. Hope OS-China gets at least 175.

I've literally never encountered this idea that we should somehow credit Venom with the success of Spider-Man 3. It's absolutely bonkers.

Spider-Man 2 was elevated by its villain, and Spider-Man 3's numbers are down a lot to Spider-Man 2. Venom was part of what caused the movie to have bad legs, he's not a big draw even in a movie with spider, let alone one without.

Then why is Spider Man 3 still the highest grossing SM movie WW, especially with its mixed reception and bad legs? Numbers don't lie.

But SM3 adjusts to $453M, that isn't a reason to think Venom should go below $100M.

There hasn't been a good SM movie since then, and anyway Deadpool wasn't so well received in Origins: Wolverine either.

Following the very beloved Spider Man 2 in a growing industry with exchange rates getting better ?

One Euro at the box office was making 0.95 USD in 2002, 1.24 in USD in 2004 and 1.37 in 2007, using box office to access popularity is a bit of a dangerous metric for many factor.

First spider man made 821.7m in 2002 and was the most popular movie of the bunch, it did $947,04 in 2007 dollars that significantly more than Spider Man 3 and with a much more difficult exchange rate. Not sure a Spider Man movie will ever re-reach the popularity of that 2002 one, it was something else.

I don't know what's more impressive, $40M for Meg or almost $12M for Slender Man. Meg is Statham vs a giant shark and is good summer fun, while Slender Man is easily 4 years late to the party and looks like crap.

Both could have made half without creating much of a surprise.

Venom as a property shouldn't be blamed by Spider-man 3's performance at the box office. According to the fans, it was not a good adaptation of the character.

With how well that movie opened, the blame can fully go into a lack of quality versus the previews 2 I would imagine.

Is that low for The Nun?

About on par with Annabelle: Creation. That one overperformed, and would've done better if the reception to the 1st one had been a lot better. The Nun seems to have more excitement surrounding it. And it's The Conjuring Universe. Never doubt these Conjuring movies.

Homecoming got great reception although imo I thought it was good, just not near SM1/2 or ASM1.

Agreed though. Outside of Joker and Harley Quinn,  Venom is probably the most popular or well known among the GA. Every time I get the trailer, reception is great. Honestly believe it'll be bigger than anything else from the September to December 2018 timeframe.

Penguin, Lex Luthor, Catwoman, Magneto & Loki are probably up there in the conversation below the Joker and above Quinn, well known by the GA is probably purely driven by how many time and for how long you have been in giant movies.
