I'd like to remind everyone that remember specific plot points/characters in a film means zilch in regards to how good the film is.

It does say something about its cultural impact.

Something like Superbad has had immeasurably larger cultural impact than Avatar, at least in the US.

Is it getting to 300M domestic?

Hmm...

$26.5 million

$27 million ($79 million)

$29.5 million/$38 million ($131 million)

$22 million ($161 million)

$17.5 million ($187 million)

$14.5 million ($209 million)

$12 million ($227 million)

$9 million ($240 million)

$7.5 million ($252 million)

$5 million ($260 million)

$3 million ($264 million)

I don't think anything over $100 million DOM is anything WB will be sad about, though 😋 realistically as far as best case scenarios go, Blind Side DOM unadjusted is possible with back-to-back weekend increases. But it also requires some absurd holds (7 weekends of $12 million+, likely in the top 12 until 10/26 or 11/2, etc). Then again, it's on pace to drop no more than 15% this weekend, which is unheard of on a non-holiday frame.

It's looking like $165-215 million DOM should happen, though.

Actually this is the Black Panther of Asians

Fun fact: Before Marvel settled on having an Avengers team up, this was insanely close to being a phase one Marvel movie. They got their loan with the prospect that Shang-Chi was one of the movies they produce

https://www.webcitation.org/6lSggnEK4

Quote

The ten Marvel characters in the arrangement are Captain America, The Avengers, Nick Fury, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Cloak & Dagger, Dr. Strange, Hawkeye, Power Pack, and Shang-Chi. Each film is expected to have a budget of up to $165 million dollars and a rating no more restrictive than PG-13. Although the financing allows for the production of animated films, Marvel currently intends to use the financing to make only live-action films.

Another random fact:

Relativity Media LLC assisted Marvel with the structuring of the financing.

Not before we get our Hawkeye and Nick Fury movie. (I just realised Marvel were not gonna make an Iron Man or Thor movie... they had more faith in Hawkeye).

I legit do not understand why the success of a film that depicts a historically underrepresented and underserved demographic in a positive light gets so many people to act so defensively.

It's a good movie. Audiences are enjoying it. And yes, its success is a huge deal for prominent Asian representation in mainstream American film.

Crazy Rich Asians is really quite good. A little wealth-porn-y frankly but the cast is bonkers good and Chu learned how to direct for this one. If they make another big budget movie with like Amber Heard or Ansel Elgort as the star instead of a Constance Wu or Henry Golding then Hollywood might as well just pack it in at this point. Get those two superstars a franchise or something.

Constance Wu is so incredibly charming in Crazy Rich Asians. I can't imagine offers not rolling in left and right between the combination of her talent and the film's breakout success.

It'll be interesting to see if Fresh Off the Boat gets a boost. I wonder if Wu will do both films and FOTB much like Melissa McCarthy did movies and Mike and Molly

Well I mean Elgort was in a big hit last year. He’ll keep getting work lol

Fresh Off the Boat is going to Fridays starting this season so it probably doesn't have life left unfortunately. But the offers for Wu will certainly come in heavy numbers now, as they should.

Warner Bros killing it in August with CRA & Meg likely combining for 300-350 in US when all is said and done.

After this hold, looks like Fallout will catch MI2 for top spot in the franchise ... well earned.

Happytime Murders was something that intrigued me on the first trailer, but something I'd never go to see in theaters because the joke would get old really quick, and I'm not usually a big fan of McCarthy anyway.  I see most people shared the indifference by not checking it out.

Today I used my A List pass to see BlacKkKlansman which was a fantastic film, one of my favorites of the year so far ... and nice to see it's still holding solid in its 3rd week.

Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all time.

Ask Reddit and how many people remember it and what cultural impact it has?  I Rest my case.

That's good science.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/243290/share-of-3d-box-office-revenue-in-north-america/

Share of box office that come from 3D

2006: 1%

2007: 1%

2008: 2%

2009: 10%

2010: 21%

2011: 18%

There is not many movies in history for which you can so clearly track impact of cultural consumption and production in the US than Avatar.

I imagine they'll try and hit 100 episodes so it can be sold in syndication. It's currently at 79 episodes so it only need to run a full season to fulfil that.
