So, just to be clear, you call a movie's opening around Christmas with something between $20m and $30m terrible?

https://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=titanic.htm

Β

Not saying that will happen (no way), but that term seems to me a bit too.... 'Too... fill in any word for exaggeration'

Β

You missed some .... 'discussions' in International

i don't think the number itself isΒ terrible, but after tracking suggests that it could do $ 40M 3-day, making just $ 23M seemedΒ terrible [for me].

Β

but i always expect it to develop great legs and apparently it will, so i'm happy because i loved the movie and i think it deserves to be a success.

That I can understand.

It might be a cultural / language thingie, age,... its just very much not how I would use the term.

Not sure if I would use it in connection with BO at all.

More for theΒ consequences/results of a bad tsunami, huge chemical factory accident,.... - as examples for maybe why some here might react so strongly in one way or the other.

Yeah Mary Poppins will end up with a decent total but it’s still way lower than most people and likely Disney expectedΒ

67Β by Thu

30 FSS (2nd weekend)

20 on Mon and Tue combined

= 105-110Β byΒ 1st Jan after about 50 5-day (Friday 28th Dec to TueΒ 1st Jan)

Β

Adding 50-75 more gives it 155-185 dom. OS run should also easily go above it's prod budget of 130 once legs in UK and a potentially strong Japan run are accounted for. Could get 40% theatrical returnsΒ from OS as China won't be contributing.

Β

But no doubt BOT expectations (includingΒ mine) were sky high in comparison. What it will do globally will be close to lot of our Dom projections.

I finally watched Bohemian Rape City and what an absolute turd. WTF. How do you make a movie this flat and dull based on such dynamic personality? It even looked flat. Poorly shot, poorly directed, completely uninspired. Even the performances weren't all that. Only the last 20 minutes are worth it but you can just watch the real thing on YouTube.Β

Β

Imagine the box office if the movie hadn't been shit. Then again most people are stupid and prefer shit so maybe it woudln't have done as well?Β

Maybe Poppins ends up being a disappointment theatrically.Β  But Disney will look at the many revenue streams it has to get it to profitability

I think it has the potential of being a long running small income per discs..., and follow ups of dics, movie.

Especially around Christmas. A bit like Donald Duck and nephews celebrating Christmas on VHS, than DVD, than Blu-Rays, downloads....

there seems to be this weird running gag on this forum that bryan singer is a visually dynamic director. plenty people say it, butΒ i've never seen it so gotta assume they're all kidding. i don't even think the ending concert is well directed. it's choppy and weird. the crowd shots are the same twenty extrasΒ standing in front of a green screen. that's how the Lifetime Movie version of that scene would look.

the movie costs only $ 130M, anything above $ 400M [which is absolutely possible] would be good for it and already profitable for Disney

Sometimes I am asking myself if there is even a movie out there you actually think about as being an excellent one.

Β

edit: only to be clear, its not about this movie, I have not seen it

Are you just edgy for the sake of it? Most of your opinions are so contrarian haha. Whatever floats your boat though. Millions of people around the world beg to differ. :)

WB hasn't had a 1 billion dollar hit in 6 years. Would be nice if Aquaman broke that streak.

Great trivia. And BVSΒ (873.635 ww) is their biggestΒ since Hobbit3 (2014). Even if it doesn't do 1b Aquaman could be their 1st film in 4 years to do 900+.
