Okay are those estimates for the weekend or? Can we have some context? DidΒ Β Aquaman opened last weekend?Β I though it was supposed to open today.

It's for yesterday's opening day ... the other movies totals are for the 20th-26th.

Pure guess: AQM -20% $17.6M, MPR +25% $14.3M, BB -15% $7.5M.

That would be massive for MPR

Could doΒ $ 40M on secondΒ weekend with that [$ 14.3M wed / $ 12M thurs / $ 14M fri / $ 15M sat / $ 11M sun]

Β

It will be too good to be true hahaha

The proyector didn't work during my Aquaman showing. They offered moving us to a 4D dubbed showing. Fuck that. I bargained my way into tickets in another theater of the same chain just like mine (VIP, subbed, 2d), plus the same tickets for Bumblebee once it opens next week.

So, we watched Aquaman as a family...wow...it's definitely a "wow" movie in more ways that one...

Β

For me, it's Avatar meets Green Lantern...what a spectacle and "what the hell" on the rest:)...I can't say anyone had a star acting turn, b/c no one did...I can't say there was that sensible a plot...I can't say there was any chemistry between the leads...I can't say that the 3rd act delivered anything except the cheesiest moment since Green Lantern's 3rd act...BUT, I can say it was amazing to see the underwater world on screen...and as my husband said "this is a movie you sit back and enjoy the spectacle and turn your brain off"...so, for me, b/c it was an amazing viewing experience, I give it a C+...Spidey is the superior supers movie this Xmas, even for me (tired eyes and overstimulated and all)...but, at Xmas, there's still something to be said for a movie that makes you smile, even if it isn't all that good...

Β

My spouse gave it a B-...his feedback is with mine.

Β

My teen daughters were split - the older one gave this movie a C for CHEESE and loved every single cheesy moment, giving the overall A grade.Β

Β

My other daughter also gave it a C for cheese, and then proceeded to also give it a C, saying it was just not good.

Β

My older son (the one who gave Spidey a D) gave this movie an A+.Β  If you are a young man, this movie is the ultimate movie for you.

Β

My youngest son (the one who gave Spidey a A+++) gave this movie an A-.Β  He was a little checked out in the 1st act, but he couldn't tear his eyes off the screen in the 3rd.

Β

But, I guess the best feedback for the movie is we were all laughing about the cheesiest moments on the entire car ride home.Β  And you can't beat a movie you can talk to everyone in the family all the way home.Β  However, Aquaman 2 - probably not getting my theater money...unless they want to give me tickets real cheap:)...

Were there any other good movies this year? This list is all I can come up with off the top of my head.Β Most of them are flawed but if nothing else I had a good time watching them.Β

Β

Green BookΒ

A Star Is BornΒ

Game NightΒ

UpgradeΒ
Mission ImpossibleΒ
DisobedienceΒ

HalloweenΒ

Maybe time to find a different hobby... if a movie end up being good is such a low batting average.

fuck live-action movies

Β

best movie out right now is spider-verse. 100% animated

Β

next best is bumblebee, which features an animated co-lead and several fully animated sequences

Β

third place goes to mary poppins, which has a whole sequence of animation in it

Β

everything else is blah and boring, live-action was a mistake

If Bumblebee counts as an animated character, shouldn't Aquaman be counted an animated film as it is like 80% CGI?

nope

Β

aquaman treats it's CG like CG supplementing a scene. Bumblebee uses CGI for a character like it's Toothless i.e. using character animation as an asset. if i was to count any movie that had CGI as animation, then literally every thing budgeted over 15M these days would be a cartoon
