People have problem in understanding the difference between flop and disappointment.

Flop is a financial disaster like mortal engine while disappointment could be something making profit but not the level that hype suggested.

Successful and disappointment can happen simultaneously. Those who deliberately pull down the expectation so that the final result looked overperforming no matter how, are just set up their own self-congratulatory agenda.

And vice versa.

If Mortal Engines is just a flop, what the hell is a bomb? Lol ;)

I know. I'm just pointing out the 400M predicts for AQM, and the hypocrisy of these people spouting "FLOP FLOP FLOP" for Poppins.

It’s not really hypocrisy, there weren’t anywhere near as many $400m predictions for Aquaman as there were $300m+ for Poppins.

Mary Poppins is not a flop by any stretch of the imagination, it’s just done less than most people expected (so far).

Didn’t New Line for years say that LOTR didn’t make them any money?

Don’t remember that but I do remember their attempt at another Lord of the Rings (2007’s The Golden Compass) killed them as a stand-alone studio and led to them being absorbed into WB.

A $100m+ movie making  $1m on a holiday boosted 3rd w/e... now that's something you don't see often.

Even uber bomb Mars Needs Moms did more than double that on it's 3rd w/e.

Oh well, there's always Pluto Nash to make a movie look better.

Should be at $75M+ by New Years Day. Good run so far.

People need to stop babying this film. These numbers are rather mediocre. It’s shouldn’t be neck to neck with Spiderverse which came out a week earlier and opened $15M higher. Also the overseas numbers are a nightmare and the China opening weekend predictions went from $70M 3 weeks ago out to mid $40’sM one  week out. These numbers are not good the movie is struggling.

Congrats once again on showing zero box office perspective.
