The élan of the first film wasn't apparent in marketing.

Lots of buzzy films released bang-bang-bang.

Big Kids Film on the horizon.

 

Mix and match as they're all intertwined, and that's before getting to more esoteric and fuzzy concepts like alleged CBM fatigue/wait for streaming.  The one thing we don't know yet is the WOM for this film.  All of the above factors really just discuss lack of interest in seeing it upfront.  What people actually think of it when they do see it?  A whole different subject.  

 

(as is having enough people to see it in the first place to get any sort of WOM going)

I love It the first Shazam but it wasn't a big success and i don't see any hype for the sequel in the long 5 years of waiting.

If the budget is only 100M then it basically needs to make 200M worldwide. Normally I'd consider the marketing budget but I don't think there is any for this movie.

think they are trying to save face. Can’t see how the budget didn’t increase with more FX and actors like Helen Mirren  be Lucy Liu joining the cast

Maybe not 9 figures like Is spent on most other CBMs but they still spent a decent chunk

Shazam 1 didn't gross a lot but it's low budget meant it made more profit than "bigger" DC hits. I expected 2 to do better but they waited so long that the kid is now an adult (robbing one of the unique aspects of the character) and the trailers had no hook.
