So I guess maybe we should curb expectations a bit, but it could just be a case with so much demand already filled out in the days before, there's just not enough supply left. So I'm gonna be optimistic and say 300M is still alive.

Not gonna bother with the backlog of other data. It's just too much.

The MCU brought the comic books to the big screen without being ashamed of their source material. These were pure comic book movies from the beginning, no gothic visions of a director (the Burton batman films), not based to reality comic book films (the Nolan batman films), not hindered by budget watered down versions (the fox X-Men and FF4 films).

What the MCU achieved changed the landscape of the industry and made comic book movies worldwide box office juggernauts even non-MCU films. They raised the bar, before the MCU we had the occasional batman film, spider man, Warner was struggling to reboot Superman for about a million years, and some smaller caliber and sporadic films (one semi successful X-men film here one so so FF4 film there, failed attempts at daredevil and women leading comic book films, Electra,  catwoman). The MCU brought us galaxies, northern Gods, wizards controlling alternate dimensions ...every crazy thing that was available in comics and studios had never dared to touch.

The MCU legacy will live  on and it is far more important than a movie introducing a fad that died a few years later (3d).

I feel like this is because it's filled so much demand rpior to this week. It outsold IW way before this week started.

What is this ? You are taking the pre-sales of the last few days and making comparisons based on them ? Endgame has already sold hundreds of thousands of tickets more than the rest of the movies in your comparisons BEFORE the last 4 days.

He's aware of this.  This was mentioned.

Guys... South Korea thread was the first thread in BOT to ever achieve a new Orange tag... "Extra Spicy!" - must be something new!

EDIT: It was all @Nero's idea, me and @Brainbug did not contribute whatsoever.

EDIT 2: Nero had no contribution whatsoever.

You're absolutely right. Let me take an hour or two out of my busy schedule to look at Endgame's entire archive of tickets that I found, which takes an incredibly long time to create. Not like I have an internship or finals I need to worry about or anything.

So is 300 million a safe bet? Anything under it would feel dissappoing...

I mean no one can reasonably say. We're in uncharted territory and mega-openers are tough enough to nail down where they'll land as is.

This is exceptional. Thanks.

I still think ENDGAME's going to come back to earth a little bit - that at least a decent chunk of the crazy pre-sales are because of people needing to see it faster, not new audiences jumping on for the ride. And that's going to be annoying because if it makes $285M, pasting the previous record, people here are just going to shrug because it isn't $300M.

The fact that so many of these modifier has to be added, suggest that it's not that groundbreaking to begin with.

It is true that MCU brought about the first successful shared cinematic Universe, and it's obviously meaningful in that regard, the financial success also speaks for itself.

But "brought the comic books to big screen without being ashamed of their source material?" I think you're reaching a bit there.

This is just your opinion talking. You do realize that  performance capture was mostly popularized and perfected after Avatar right? Avatar set a new standard for Sci-Fi/Fantasy film making by being the first movie to place entirely CGI characters into a CGI world. And 3D isn't dead.

How about this: Avatar was the key film that lead to a cascade of theaters being built/upgraded in China, directly leading to the massive post 2010 Chinese box office market expansion, which will soon overtake NA as the biggest  market in the world?

Not saying Avatar is more important than MCU, but your dismissive attitude toward Avatar is ridiculous.

So if Cap Marvel finishes #2 this weekend, it will be only the 2nd time (and first for first-run movies) that the same franchise has held the #1 and #2 spots,

Only other time was with the SW Special Editions back in 1997:

Opening numbers around the world are blowing past IW and the opening records. Even Japan is expected to come in 40% over IW and they aren't a "superhero" country. So yes, expectations are high and rightly so.

$285m would be a let down only because the real tracking says much higher ($305-$325m)
