oh it doesn't matter. He's a huge star who doesn't make movies often, the movie got raves and the Academy always finds a way to nominate famous actors even if they don't deserve it

Pitt was very good in OUATIH - he had great presence - I think that is what you all are talking about.  I would like to give some credit to Tarantino - all those actors were outstanding & I believe Quentin brought out the best in them & is also a master at casting.  Unlike you guys I couldn't keep my eyes off Leo & his over-the-hill mid-life crisis emotional breakdown - maybe because I am older than most of you & could relate to that aspect - I thought he was truly outstanding & I was surprised at how many times he made me laugh - would love to see him in a comedy along the lines of Midnight Run - I think he would be fantastic.  Leo made that movie for me.

I think DiCaprio wins the Comedy/Musical Actor Golden Globe and that'll easily put him in the top 5 at the Oscars.

Honestly, I think it's one of his best performances. Far better than the Revenant.

@Firepower Yeah, stilted overacting in Knives Out puts me off. The trailer looked like actors having fun while I felt like watching other people have fun instead of having fun with them. And yes, when critics favor a director they just go overboard. Don't think the movie's my thing. Might torrent it out of curiosity. 

 

@Catty Agreed, Tarantino is fantastic with actor sand the whole cast delivered. I commented on Pitt only because someone said his role was easy.

Disney/Fox just dated the Ben Affleck/Ana de Armas movie and Ridley Scott's next movie with Damon and Driver for next holiday season so it seems like Disney isn't planning on limiting their output to just tentpoles in the near future. FWIW the partnership got off to a bad start since they had to inherit a bunch of movies that were destined to be duds as leftovers from the previous Fox regime, although they still have a few more of those (like Underwater and New Mutants, both of which were made earlier in 2017 before there were even whispers of a Fox/Disney sale) in the pipeline.

Yeah but they also killed Affleck's McDonald's Monopoly movie, that had a lot of potential

I wonder how Tomb Raider 2018 and Charlie's Angels would have performed if they swapped dates. It doesn't seem to me like one had more buzz than the other. It totally seems to me Charlie's Angels was unlucky to come out in the wrong time, the audience is behaving weirdly for weeks. Well reviewed sequels like Terminator Dark Fate and Doctor Sleep coming so below tracking numbers, that doesn't look normal.
