Was DiCaptrio award-worthy in OUATIH? I've yet to see the film but I don't recall reviews going out of their way to rave about him.

oh it doesn't matter. He's a huge star who doesn't make movies often, the movie got raves and the Academy always finds a way to nominate famous actors even if they don't deserve it

Pitt is incredible in OUATIH and it's really annoying that people dismiss his role as "easy" when it's him who makes it look easy even though it's not. Unfortunately, we are trained to appreciate actressing more than natural-ness so if an actor doesn't shout or break a plate, he/she "didn't do anything in the movie".

Pitt was very good in OUATIH - he had great presence - I think that is what you all are talking about.  I would like to give some credit to Tarantino - all those actors were outstanding & I believe Quentin brought out the best in them & is also a master at casting.  Unlike you guys I couldn't keep my eyes off Leo & his over-the-hill mid-life crisis emotional breakdown - maybe because I am older than most of you & could relate to that aspect - I thought he was truly outstanding & I was surprised at how many times he made me laugh - would love to see him in a comedy along the lines of Midnight Run - I think he would be fantastic.  Leo made that movie for me.

I don't know if a film can be smug but Knives Out sure looks smug to me lol But the last time Craig had this much fun, in Logan Lucky, it ended being a very good movie

Yeap, Logan Lucky was very good, hopefully this one will be too.

Honestly, I think it's one of his best performances. Far better than the Revenant.

Best thing about FvF over-performing is that it sends a signal to Iger that these kinds of movies still make money, and Fox might still be allowed to produce them moving forward. With all the Fox dramas that got killed it felt like this was going to be one of the last we get from them

I hope so!

The Last Jedi haters are so boring. The lovers who think that it is a perfect movie are as well but the haters a little more so.

Tfa was a lot better. I still enjoyed the last Jedi. Can't wait for the next one.

@Firepower Yeah, stilted overacting in Knives Out puts me off. The trailer looked like actors having fun while I felt like watching other people have fun instead of having fun with them. And yes, when critics favor a director they just go overboard. Don't think the movie's my thing. Might torrent it out of curiosity.

@Catty Agreed, Tarantino is fantastic with actor sand the whole cast delivered. I commented on Pitt only because someone said his role was easy.

Disney/Fox just dated the Ben Affleck/Ana de Armas movie and Ridley Scott's next movie with Damon and Driver for next holiday season so it seems like Disney isn't planning on limiting their output to just tentpoles in the near future. FWIW the partnership got off to a bad start since they had to inherit a bunch of movies that were destined to be duds as leftovers from the previous Fox regime, although they still have a few more of those (like Underwater and New Mutants, both of which were made earlier in 2017 before there were even whispers of a Fox/Disney sale) in the pipeline.

Yeah but they also killed Affleck's McDonald's Monopoly movie, that had a lot of potential

Because he's an actual talent while most of other SH actors really are perfect for that one role and not much else. It isn't a dig at them for they do amazing job with the specific SH role (most of them, not all of them of course) but Bale is a cut above which is why he has an actual career, doesn't just coast off Marvel or DC.

um probably a bit less than most.

Brie Larson, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, Robert Pattinson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jennifer Lawrence, James McaVoy, Margot Robbie, Hailee Steinfeld, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zendaya, Bradley Cooper, Hugh Jackman, Natalie Portman, Michael B. Jordan and Amy Adams to name a few.

I wonder how Tomb Raider 2018 and Charlie's Angels would have performed if they swapped dates. It doesn't seem to me like one had more buzz than the other. It totally seems to me Charlie's Angels was unlucky to come out in the wrong time, the audience is behaving weirdly for weeks. Well reviewed sequels like Terminator Dark Fate and Doctor Sleep coming so below tracking numbers, that doesn't look normal.

Joaquin and DiCaprio all have similar range imho, And frankly, lately, they both do similar things in all of their roles. Pitt showed range this year, and not for the first time.

I can't go with this.

Walk the Line, The Master, You Were Never Really Here and Gladiator are not even close to each other. Really don't get how you pull "similar range" out of Phoenix's oevre.

DiCaprio maybe, but not Phoenix.
