Weekend Thread: Friday #s - Onward 12.1, Invisible Man 4.3, Way Back 2.6 | Blame It On the Roni

Recommended Posts

Not bad. It's just previews from an original animated film. Kids still at school. And some upfront demand burnt with Leap day screenings.

HTTYD3 had 3M Thursday last year and it was the end chapter of an established franchise appealing also to young adults. The OW was 55M

$2 million for a Disney family film? That’s not horrendous, no need to panic. Spring Break isn’t in session just yet for families and Onward will play well on the weekend  like Saturday and Sunday matinees. So north of $50 million or so would be a reasonable start.

The Way Back it”ll all depend with tomorrow with matinees as well, as it’s an adult oriented movie.

Sub $50m wouldn’t be very good and can’t be spun.

Tracking started in the $40M range so no one can claim they didn't see this coming. The movie always looked like "Minor Pixar" anyway.

Had no previews.

Why would they do that? Is the movie bad?

You don't do that to a movie unless you think it's not getting good word of mouth. Critics are quite good for this one. No idea what's happening to WB...

This take is not gonna hold up well in 72 hours.

25-35 would be cause for worry but anything in the 35M-50M range should mean the virus has little to no effect yet.

weird how when it's a Disney movie that doesn't break records, everybody starts finding excuses for the average grosses. maybe the interest for this movie is just not there? the reviews are already weaker than standard pixar lol.
