AniNate
I could see a Wonka/Avatar coexistence if Mario weren't also there (though that also seems like a good candidate to get moved eventually)

keysersoze123
Avatar would be interesting. Jim Cameron should not be underestimated for sure. That said I am expecting Marvel to dominate Top 5 again along with Avatar. Batman and Aquabro etc in 6-10. Only movie that could surprise its way to Top 5 is Jurassic whatever. I did not like either one of the new movies but they are very popular and could bring in the young crowd for sure.

Avatar was the biggest film in China x 4 when it came out, and the re-release just made nearly $60M in China this year. Add in the fact that a film in China made over $900M this year and it's not that farfetched to think Avatar 2 could break $1B. I'd be more inclined to stick with something like $700M for now. excel1
I think an obvious byproduct of Covid is the return of true "event" films not at there aren't big blockbusters opening every other week. The big ones really, really stand out. I think this likely helped SPIDER-MAN really explode like it did, and wonder if THE BATMAN will see something similar on opening weekend, too. What helped Spiderman explode the way it did was mostly due to nostalgia of having OG characters/actors from the previous spiderman movies return. The Batman does not have that luxury nor does it seem to be leaning on nostalgia, it's just been selling itself as a new Batman movie. I think it will do well but not right out the gate like Spiderman did.
JonahVex
I don't know how china will be with releases next year so $856 mil(Aquaman Total -China) is WW number I'm looking for The Batman to defeat. I think it can do 900-1bil without china if the movie lives up to our hype, a good china release date could push it to Black Panther numbers but its not sniffing NWH, maybe the finale of the reeves trilogy can come close to that

JonahVex
Not over 350 mil but If it can hit around 1 bil is without china i could see it doing aquaman numbers in china ~290 mil provided a good early date which would get it close to BP but thats the absolute best case for this movie, i'm expecting something like 1bil WW
MattW
For 2022 I'll predict $7.5 billion or more for the domestic total from at least 600 releases. May through the end of the year will be the new normal. Change is in the air.
CloneWars
I just looked at the 2022 calendar. Damn, that year is stacked. If it weren't for the pandemic, we would likely be looking at the biggest year ever on box office record.
