Mainland China Forecast

Didn't GvK get 188M there? That's quite a decrease, but I guess every Hollywood thing is getting a decrease there lately right? Oh well, let's hope the rest of the markets pick up the slack.

In addition, Exchange Rates are lately poorer - $188M is now adjusted to $170M at current prices

Darn… so not even the Monsterverse is immune to Hollywood drops in China. It’ll have to make up elsewhere which looks like it’ll be here in the states. I think between 500-550 worldwide is reasonable.

If even KFP4 collapsed more than half over there, nothing much else people can hope from this market.

GxK could be the first Monsterverse movie since Godzilla 2014 with its domestic BO gross higher than in China. Kong, KOM and GvK all had China BO bigger than in domestic.

$100M in China today is akin to making $1B worldwide. If I were Legendary I'd be grateful for that much out of an increasingly nationalistic market that has pretty much abandoned Hollywood.

I think a lot of people were wondering if LP being owned by Wanda would make a difference. Apparently not! 100m is t bad but yeah… decent decrease.

Being a half-Chinese production, Meg 2 also decrease from Meg 1 in China from 150m+ to 118m, and the sequel actually feature one of the biggest star in China- Wu Jing, which in theory, should have been a big plus point for the sequel.

Dune 2 recently bucked the downward trend though, but that is coming off from way lower base.

Is China suppressing Hollywood movies or something? Why the big change?

I genuinely loved this one. Don’t like Godzilla 1 or 2, nor Skull Island. Liked Godzilla vs Kong but this was easily the best imo. So entertaining. Human stuff is human stuff but I really enjoyed this. Looked great and had great monster fights. Give me more of this please.

The first 12 reviews i see on RT right now are all fresh.

In line with general audience reaction here in Malaysia. They are quite positive and people are getting what they expected from a monster-flick, it is solid four-quad crowd pleaser.

At least from the big critics on meta, reviews seems very on par with GxK, maybe slightly worse. Waiting RT to update

Anyway, definitely not tepid reviews and even the bad ones are complaining more about humans, script etc, not about the monsters or the fights.

Even if it goes rotten, shouldn’t hurt the movie

From what ive read so far, it seems very similar to GvK - human stuff is cliche and drags on a bit too much, but the film really delivers on the monsters and action.

If that is the consensus of the GA as well, the film will have good legs.
