Instead of a throw away role, they should have had Matt Bomer play the villain.  He was scary as shit in The Nice Guys - my favorite part of the movie.

Love this review. I've been lowering my expectations based on the mixed reviews but I usually agree with Stuckmann so him enjoying this is really hyping up my excitement again.

Antoine Fuqua is basically a one hit wonder at this point.

 

Usually his mediocrity doesn't bother me but this screams wasted opportunity.

 

(No, I haven't seen it but I agree with the critics 85%, especially for action movies)

So you haven't seen it, but based on a 64% (Fresh) rating on RT you decide it can't be good?

The one hit wonder you mention, assuming you mean Training Day, is sitting at 72% on RT.

I guess those 8% make a ton of difference.

I don't care if it's not as deep as Seven Samurai, as long as it's an entertaining ride (no pun intended), I'm good. And apparently (I quite trust Stuckmann when it comes to reviews) it is one. So I'm good there.

I will tell you what...the original magnificent 7 is a remake of Seven Samurais an infinitely superior movie. So I don't consider the 1960 mag7 anything more than a ripoff with cowboys.

I expect this movie to perform like Fuqua's previous The Equalizer.

 

It opens with 40 million, then it goes on to finish with 100-110 million.

64% this early is a bad sign.

 

I doubt it stays fresh.
