I think the whole discussion on who will be next Bond is bit insulting. Let the film release atleast and let Craig have that final send off limelight.

That said. I think Pattinson should be next one.

The "next bond" discussion is perpetual in British media, they've been discussing who's going to replace Craig since at least Skyfall.

If anything the talks have diminished now this era is coming to an end. Though we still get the odd click bait "Should the next Bond be a Woman?" articles but they are there just to rattle feathers

Whole plot is on Wikipedia for those who want to be spoiled

Meh, I've waited 2 years,what's 2 days🤣

Though this will probably underperform now as people don't have the fuel to get to the cinema

Seeing as everyone is throwing their rankings out there, I’ll kind of throw my two cents in.

I’m now in my 40’s and been a super fan of the franchise since I was 6 or 7 years old.  Read most of the Fleming books as a teenager and have always preferred the harder, meaner, complex assassin type films to the sillier, referential ones. That said, Roger Moore is kind of my James Bond growing up to a degree, so I’m not as harsh on a few of those movies as I should be.

I’ve rewatched all 24 movies in the last week and a half (as I always do when a new one is about to open).

I’ll do a top six.

Special mention……

Straight up though (as many have said on here) Licence to Kill is awesome, and was thrown out to an audience not ready for that kind of Bond yet.

My top six…..

Connery IS James Bond, and I still think the finest film of all 24 is From Russia With Love. Fleming to a tee, and probably the definitive depiction of the Bond from the books.

Just (JUST!) behind that for me are Casino Royale and Skyfall, which I think are wonderful films in their own right.

Then Spy Who Loved Me, which I think does a better job than the beloved Goldfinger at nailing the mainstream Bond the masses love. Don’t get me wrong, I love Goldfinger. Yet where in that movie does it elevate the filmmaking to high art like Spy? The Egypt pyramid sequence alone is better than anything in Goldfinger, and Marvin Hamlisch’s score is an all-timer.

In fifth I have On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, which is some kind of outlier masterpiece. The second act up in Blofeld’s ‘experiment’ lair is borderline Kubrick weirdness. I love it.

Then in sixth I’d have Thunderball, which I think is a much more serious, better made version of Goldfinger.

I’m super hyped for tomorrow. Was very mixed on Spectre (well, just the second half really) so I’m hoping NTTD delivers a conclusion of sorts.
Also, count me as someone who largely loves Quantum of Solace. That one feels more real as a modern day spy vs corruption tale than any other.

I remember From Russia With Love. Pretty much every vehicle or item of clothing worn by the villains were from German made companies lol. It just showed the level of pettiness and friction between the countries at the time. Sneaky politics in old Bond movies

I love both, but I give GF the slight edge (besides it's influence on the franchise and 1960s cinema) because of the pure joy at seeing Bond not once but twice stick it to the title villain, especially at the golf course and Connery's so-satisfying smug look as he knowingly rubs it in that prick's face.

We’re on the same page pretty much.

The golf scene. Lol. So good.
Love the first encounter where Bond ruins his card game cheating scheme, and sleeps with his girl - just to rub it in. Unreal.

Top 5:

  1. The Spy Who Loved Me
  2. Casino Royale
  3. From Russia With Love
  4. Goldfinger
  5. On Her Majesty's Secret Service

The Living Daylights, Moonraker, License to Kill and Goldeneye as runner ups.

Bottom 5:

  1. Never Say Never Again
  2. Die Another Day
  3. Casino Royale (1967)
  4. Diamonds are Forever
  5. The World is Not Enough

A View to a Kill and You Only Live Twice would be there if you remove the two unofficial entries.
