Oh, I missed that post. Sorry for arguing then. You're correct that for Avatar 2, Jim is in no way an underdog, no matter how much EG makes he's still considered the box office champion and Avatar is a sequel arriving in an era where sequels to popular movies tend to do very well.

I know right. After you have a Titanic and Avatar he's king Midas..lol

Only the daft think jc is an underdog when Disney is giving the man 1.2bil and more to make 4 sequels and 60% of everything Avatar.

Underdog you say??

😁😁

IMHO

It is hard to associate the defining franchise of a generation with some blue people running wild or shooting arrows in jungles on screen. I think people would prefer live action heroes instead of some fully CGI animated characters when it comes to what defines their childhood.

Not to mention that in years 2020-27 there will be 20 MCU movies with billie+ box office each = bigger impact than Avatars could ever have

By 2027, western children will watch Avatars like National Geographic documentaries asking their parents what rainforests were back in our days and why they can't relocate on Pandora instead of the polluted shithole they live in.

In december 2027, Cameron will be 73.

Hope nothing bad health wise happens to him until then.

When you hit 60, it s when your chances to have serious health problems increase by a lot.

So when you approach 70 ...

This. If Avatars sequels actually take off beyond this one. I fully expect some interested and morbidly interested attendance for the initial sequel making it a hit. The films that follow though are wildcards at this moment.

The Avatar franchise will just be part of the backdrop, not the definer of that. The MCU's stake is huge at this point and already encompasses a generation.

Between the SW films, '83/'99, no one in that generation says Back to the Future or Ghostbusters is the singular defining zeitgeist of their generation. Both are components of it though. Avatar is likely to just be a component of the next decade, not the definer of it.

The only gimmick of Avatar was it was a great film with fantastic storyltelling.

3d doesn't buy you Avatar legs.

But great filmmaking and great storytelling do.

Simple.

It was revolutionary for quality and expanded 3d which has plummeted since.

Quality wise it won't have anywhere near the same effect. As for story it was good nothing amazing.

The Futurist said Story telling.

Meaning a simple story told extremely well, the art is in the delivery
