baumer
http://variety.com/2...end-1201378257/ Quote Christian Bale’s “Exodus: Gods and Kings” is set to take the U.S. box office crown this weekend with early Friday estimates showing an opening of about $25 million. Fox’s Biblical epic looks likely to take in about $9 million Friday, including $1.2 million from late Thursday shows. A $25 million launch would be in line with recent forecasts, the most bullish of which went as high as $30 million. Paramount’s “Top Five,” starring Chris Rock as a comedian at a professional and personal crossroads, looks likely to take in about $2.7 million on Friday and finish the weekend at about $8 million.
TalismanRing
So in line with Son Of God numbers. That's not too encouraging considering the gulf in director & actor star power, the budget and that SOG was edited from an already aired mini series. At least with the holidays Exodus should have better legs.

Ozymandias
I think Scott and Bale's interviews hurt it as well. They should have asked a PR team how to handle to questions about the casting instead of just saying whatever they wanted to. Definitely, Bale's commits awhile back about Moses being a violent and barbaric schizophrenic(LOL) probably scared away the Christian audience as well, I'm sure Fox News and all the bible thumping right wingers on talk radio sounded the alarms over that. Nothing went right for it, bad reviews and bad press ever since the first trailer landed(whitewashing). You couldn't read anything about this movie online without reading about the whitewashing controversy.
wildphantom
As per usual, international audiences will make this a hit. Why oh why US audiences haven't shown up in bigger numbers this weekend is anyone's guess. Sure, the reviews must be a factor. It's been much better received here in the UK for example. I really liked the movie. Plenty to recommend it.

miketheavenger
Disappointing, but not horrible for Exodus. It won't lose the studio much money thanks to overseas audiences.
Hatebox
This only cost 140m? It looks much pricier, I'll give it that...

Hatebox
Giant shrug for Exodus. Trouble is you can't even enjoy it disappointing because OS will save it... like it seems to save just about everything now. Honestly, the international board should be a lot busier, it's what really makes or breaks a film now.

Aplandg
Even though I thought Exodus was mostly forgettable with the exception of the visuals, I really wanted it to cross $30m this weekend. Good for MJ! Getting close to the weekly CF numbers. Hopefully it can match by next weekend and continue to do as well or better for the rest of its run. If it's able to match CF starting next week, MJ1 would total at $343m dom. This is obviously wishful thinking, but I don't think it should be counted out of the race against GOTG quite yet.
