I wouldn't be surprised if Wonder Woman ends up being the highest grossing female directed film ever. I never realised how hugely successful both The Proposal and What Women Want were,

 We have a winner. Easily.

But... but... it's a true story and the real dude was actually worse.

Please don't get me wrong. My problem is how Holywood typically chooses real-life stories about not-so-great Asians against the all-awesome Americans. There are so many stories to be told out there about great Asian and Asian American people, but Hollywood will invariably choose to showcase the ones that portray them as evil. Anyway, it's just one of my film pet peeves.

All the Asian Americans were whitewashed in 21. And Avatar The Last Airbender.

I am soo moving out of my town when I get through with College. a new movie theater opened up with six screens in November (which the last one had 2). and I was like yay! maybe they'll actually play movies I want to see. I swear they just look at the worst review films and put them.

Right now

Annie

Night at the Museum 3

Hobbit 3

Unbroken

Top 5

Mockingjay

Exodus.

there not even playing into the woods!

Top Five is the best reviewed movie at right now...

Who would have thought that Into The Woods would be the best reviewed wide release of the holiday season.

Big Eyes has slightly better reviews

I think it's underrated but I really liked Oliver Stone's Heaven And Earth centered around Le Ly Hayslip's harrowing experience during Vietnam war and the aftermath. And as much that I loathe Luc Besson, he still got a movie made about Aung San Suu Kyi.

Top Five has an 80%+ on RT. And it's considered Chris Rock's masterpiece. Hobbit 3 and Mockingjay are also Fresh on RT.

But yeah that's a pretty bad slate

yeah I mean Hobbit was good. Top five might be good, as for mockingjay... I was disappointed to say the least. I probably will see Unbroken, but all the negativity has dampened my enthusiasm for it.

Comment like Ando: Top 5 is not your type of movie? You must be a racist.

The only bad thing (in my opinion, alright?) about Unbroken´s possible breakout is that, once again, we have a most-likely-successful film that presents more negative images of Asians. I know that to some of you that's a lame thing to say and that we should all "get over it," but in an industry that rarely if at all makes any effort to nurture and create Asian American film stars, and rarely if at all creates movies about their stories, it really bothers me that all the images of Asians that we keep perpetuating are stereotypical martial arts superpeople or caricaturesque villains.  End of rant.

Next up, hopefully she'll direct at some point a film with a female protagonist...

I'm not following your train of thought.  Unbroken is recounting a WWII vet's time as a POW in a Japanese camp.   And the brutal treatment POWs received while at Japanese camps is well documented.  Do you think movies like this should not be made, or maybe changed to such a degree that it's not even the same story?

This film by itself is not the problem, it's that in the larger context Asians tend to be portrayed negatively in films.

Loving the numbers! Into The Woods had  potential to earn more if it was on 3,000+ screens I guess but still great OD
