I agree, but still, if the Joker loses the Best Picture award the meltdown is going to be something to see.

(Will it ?), i would not imagine many think it has a good shoot or even realistic one right now.

Seem to be an almost pure 3 way race right now according to betting line:

Holy shit did anyone just see that thing on CW crisis crossover wtf lol. I don’t want to spoil it here but wow lol.

I will give them credit, that was the most surprised I’ve been about something superhero related in a long time.

Yeah, it was great>

As in another thread, I give DC a lot of credit for keeping it from leaking out. That took some doing.

Agreed. Funny how really sweeping statements are usually ridiculous.

But then this guy seems to think Hilary has a chance in 2020......

I mean a politics dig is super unnecessary as well, as if this thread wasn’t toxic enough already

Spoiler

WB isn't doing a shared universe anymore so I doubt it. Ezra said he loves the multiverse aspect of DC so he probably did it just for fun

Both sides are toxic as hell.

These people seem insane: outrage junkies with massive narcissistic personality disorders and a persecution complex that regularly crosses the line into moral policing and virtue signalling. Just my two cents.

Director who makes a film  about class warfare despises the art the lower/working classes enjoy after their working day/week.

Typical.

Make no mistake, Bong and Scorcese think working class people smell funny too.

Parasite won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes film Festival, a place where a bunch upper class people who earn At least 5K a month wake up at 6am to watch socialist/marxist films about the have nots.

When their pseudo act of contrition is done, they party all night with Russian whores, champagne & cokaine, spending thousands of euros because why the fuck not, fuck poor people.

When these people watch movies like Parasite, it s like going to the Zoo for them, they enjoy watching how weak and pathetic the working class is.

This is how perverted these people are.

Because deep inside, they know wealth is limited and trust me, they are NOT ready to share.

So movies like Parasite and The Joker are necessary for the status quo, so the upper class can still pretend they care, while getting filthy fucking rich in the process.

Ask Todd.

They win on all levels, social status acquired with public moral high ground AND money.

A perfect world.

There is a reason 95% of artists all around the world are leftists.

People like Joon-Ho are ALL ABOUT POWER.

There is no difference between Trump and Joon-Ho.

NONE.

Oh yes, there is, one of the two is honest about what he is and what he wants.

I will let you guess who.

Here's the thing about the "All moviemakers are a bunch of socialists" thing.

Most filmmakers are going to make movies that reflect the society in which we live. Since the majority of the western world lives in a economic environment that is pretty much far right (I don't mean fascist, I mean fully deregulated free market capitalism with almost no checks and balances and very few forums left for individuals to hold equal platforms against corporations) then it's only natural that there are a lot of movies that critique that particular version of capitalism.

Despite what some would claim, most of these people are capitalists, and critiquing one version of capitalism is not - funnily enough - the same as being a socialist or Marxist. You're mostly calling out people for being hypocrites here when they're not really any such thing......or rather, they are, but not for THIS reason. (They certainly are when they become pragmatists about the inherent biases in their own system and the fact that they are responsible for the environment that they virtue signal they want to improve)

IF Joker had spun more on the Wayne family being an active part of hypocritical society, which it didn't, then I'd have been MUCH more positive about Joker (and I was already reasonably positive about it) than I was. The idea was there, but he didn't go through with it, and especially threw it away with that awful last scene.

As for Bong Joon Ho and Superhero movies - I think it's clear at this point there are just some directors who think they are above them and that's probably their loss, but also their prerogative. Cate Shortland, Chloe Zhao, Cathy Yan and the like though are being given chances by the superhero film genre that they haven't gotten from the rest of the studio system so it seems churlish to sneer at it.
