See Vertigo, North by Northwest and Rear Window. Id also recommend The Lady Vanishes and Strangers on a Train.

You can skip The Birds until you've seen every other major film of his

Kubrick rocks, right?

Also seeing Metropolis on your list I remembered I almost included it on mine, but I think I wouldn't like it much if I had really watched it. The way I watched it was with reproduction speed x1.7, and I loved the pacing, and was getting bored at the beginning when I was watching it at regular speed.

It is never too late. Try Rear Window (IMHO, his best film), Vertigo, North by Northwest, Rope, Rebecca, Torn curtain or Frenzy (this is from 70s and it is quite "modern" if you are afraid of "old" movies. It is one of my favorites).

I'd recommend starting with his more accessible films like Rear Window and North by Northwest.

I'm definitely on The Birds hate train. Susanne Pleschette and one or two creepy moments aside, it's basically The Happening except a full hour longer and somehow a classic.

A full hour longer? I looked on IMDB, and it looks like they're the same length.

[checks] Alright, The Happening is 90 minutes, The Birds is 120. Felt three times as long, anyway.

Yeah, The Birds is certainly considered a classic, but I really couldn't tell you why.

I guess in terms of horror films of its period its better than The Blob was, but that's kinda damning with faint praise. If it came out before Psycho I could kinda understand it, since horror movies in those days weren't really very good and maybe everyone remembers it fondly because it did well against weak competition. But it didn't. It came out *after* Psycho. And not only is it not in the same ballpark as Psycho, its like a commuter train connection plus two bus rides away from being in the same ballpark as Psycho. I just don't get it.

Psycho's first hour is some of the greatest filmmaking I've ever seen, but it loses steam after the two murders. And the less said about that psychologist the better.

Ain't that the truth.... I'm working on my graduate in psych and am just aghast everytime I see the ending.

And yeah the birds is one of my absolute favorites of his but I can see why others don't care for it.

I made one edit to my list and took out Empire Strikes Back to put in Casablanca.  I would have just bumped everything down but I'm too lazy to do that given how many lists there are to score.

This should be the only edit I make to my own.
