True, but this character literally can't be injured or scarred in any way, either.  She needs to show up with 2 arms, 2 legs, 2 eyes, and a perfect complexion in time for Endgame...

That does reduce the stakes for a character, especially one with no super healing or invulnerability...threats to her PC are just less likely to be taken with any seriousness by the audience...

From my experience, people are remarkably able to suspend their disbelief as long as they’re sucked in. I find the “lack of stakes” argument to hold less water with most people.

To use a classic example, “The Hound of Baskervilles” was written after Sherlock Holmes’ death (but before his resurrection) and it was set before his demise. Didn’t stop anybody from enjoying it.

I mean for all the complaints at WW84, did anybody not like it because they knew (1) the hero would live and (2) the world didn’t end in 1984 because obviously she’s around for a couple of DCEU joints set decades later that we’re released before WW84? I sincerely doubt it.

It's fine imo. Very forgettable (it gets very repetitive and messy in the second half) but still enjoyable to an extent.

EDIT - Just read that there's a sequence in the movie set to a somber cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit. If it's done unironically then fucking lol.

That sequence was...very awkward.

Sounds decent enough. MCU reviews are either polite or gushing. These definitely lean more towards the polite end which I suppose doesn't really matter after the year we've had. Shame it's not the lean spy-thriller some hoped for and instead the increasingly frenetic CGI action we're used to.

Can't be more weird than when Pan did it

Dude it's been ages since anybody talked about superhero fatigue.

There were rumblings about oversaturation with the fanboy market thanks to the MCU Disney+ shows.

Seems like the opposite is true.

Rumblings started when FATWS disappointed. They are silenced now that Loki is so beloved. So about 2 months of rumblings. :hahaha:

fatigue and oversaturation aren't the same thing. Things can be oversaturated without people getting fatigued of it.

There wasn't saturation if things just get bigger

Everyone talked about how the TV shows is too much and still every time their drop a new show, it breaks the record on D+

Then some people assume the shows will hurt the movies, if BW presaled is any evidence, this is also so far from true...

It's a beloved and consistent franchise, nobody cares or even think about saturation or fatigue outside the internet discussion. When they start to fail with the audience, then this could became a true problem.

Yeah, same genre (CBM) doesn't mean every movie/show is a repeat. They all tell stories by using other genres (comedy or thriller or sci fi ,etc) so it always feels fresh.

BW is a spy thriller. Shang Chi is kung fu. Eternals is sci fi. so very different.

I actually agree - they are superhero movies 1st, and then genre type 2nd...

When they forget that rule, they get absolutely destroyed by audiences and critics (see Fant4stic, which is not good, but isn't that bad, either, but have you seen its Rotten Tomato scores - 9% and 18%) - superhero movies must have superheroic elements front and center, so they aren't really spy thrillers and kung fu movies, but superheroic spy thrillers and superheroic kung fu movies...

PS - Fant4stic was just sci-fi - and thus, why it failed spectacularly...

They’re all superhero movies, but they’re a spy thriller superhero movie, a martial arts superhero movie, etc. That variety is obviously part of what keeps them fresh.
