So what will be the next film to open with 30M+ you think?

Obviously Doctor Strange and Trolls.

Inferno i think does mid 20s at best, no one was really asking for a third installment in that franchise.

DreamWorks The Girl on the Train via Universal per early evening estimates is expected to open to $26M at 3,144 venues after a $9.3M Friday. But it’s Fox Searchlight’s The Birth of a Nation which is suffering a low FSS of $7.6M in sixth place. Even though that’s where tracking spotted the antebellum slave revolt pic, and even thought it’s receiving a solid A CinemaScore tonight from moviegoers, many tell Deadline that the pic is truly being hindered at the turnstiles by the media maelstrom over the rape charges against its filmmakers, director/star Nate Parker and co-writer Jean Celestin, which occurred 17 years ago.

The Girl on the Train gets a B- CinemaScore tonight, and while that might seem severe, it’s typical for feature adaptations of chick lit: Gone Girl (B), Fifty Shades of Grey (C+), The Devil Wears Prada (B), and The Nanny Diaries (B-). The core older femme readers show up with their friends, then deconstruct he pic to death and it’s departures from the source material.

CBS/Lionsgate has Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life which is landing in seventh with $6.2M. CBS built this $9M title, co-financed by Participant Media and James Patterson Productions, as a mini cash cow once all ancillaries are accounted for.

Deadline hears that in some of the African American-demo theaters where Birth of a Nation is playing, it’s the top title in such venues located in Atlanta, New York City, Chicago, Baltimore, Norfolk, VA and in the Baldwin Hills neighborhood of L.A. Based on the film’s A CinemaScore tonight, it’s apparent that the film still emotionally affects crowds as it did during its Sundance Film Festival premiere. Producer Kevin Turen has said in interviews that there have been “screenings where 90% of the audiences are left in tears”.

Girl on the Train did modest numbers at my theatre; my estimate based on the early show numbers is 8M. Could be a tad higher though. Peregrine held well.

I have to work at 8AM tomorrow because someone rented one of our auditorium to play PlayStation for 2 hours. I didn't even know you could do that!!

That is such a stupod thing to say. Inferno was the best selling book of 2013 pretty much everywhere around the world. People clearly like Dan Brown.

Probably Inferno. The next HUGE weekend should be November 4th, I think it's possible that both Doctor Strange and Trolls perform like Spectre and Peanuts did last year.

I don't really know about The Witch, but Popstar has a lot of fans around here.

Check the list above.  People around the web found Popstar one of the worst of the year.  Like WTF.

The Witch is absolutely fantastic.
