Why would someone HATE this? I’m going to have to see it now. That’s a pretty strong emotional response to a movie.

People were hyped for the film based on the effusive praise for the following the brief footage at CinemaCon this spring and the music heavy trailer. Then the film turned out to be bad so all of those high hopes have been crushed. Without the early praise and a misleading trailer, people would not care enough to hate it.

that and the john and yoko movie that's got yoko's blessing (though with yoko's crazy ass that might go a little differently) i'm not here for this trend of interesting and wild musicians getting these neutered biopics man. like the inevitable bowie movie is probably gonna be directed by duncan jones and be about what a great dad he is or some shit.

Thankfully Taika Waititi's Michael Jackson stop-motion monkey movie will save the sub-genre...hopefully.

Who will play Madonna, who will she cast to play herself ?

I think there is an Amy Winehouse film in the pipeline too.

Ariana Grande biopic about her recent break-up ?

That's some epic drama shit.

You could make a horrible depressive movie about the Seatle grunge scene, where 3 singers form the Big 4 of that scene committed suicide at various satges of their lives (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, SOundgarden, ALice in Chains).

A damn shame if it falls down on exploring the art as much as the artist

Spoiler

What we miss is how the band came up with “Killer Queen” in the first place — the merging of Mercury’s Tin Pan Alley jauntiness and Brian May’s guitar-god power, backed by the insane multi-tracking of Mercury’s voice into an infinitely mirrored chorus. That’s the invention of the Queen sound, and it’s barely an afterthought in the movie.

...

It’s telling that Queen’s 1976 single “Somebody to Love” isn’t featured in the movie (it’s just background music), because not only is it one of their greatest songs, it’s one of Mercury’s most ardently autobiographical. It could have been an epiphany — but the film backs away from it, because it’s backing away from the emotional bravura of what Freddie Mercury was singing.

It's early still so maybe it's score will go up. It clear that the reviews are mixed though.

Yeah.  Top critics 2/9  (22%) are currently slamming it more than on whole so it could move into fresh territory - 60s - when 200 reviews or so are in
