Venom: Let There Be Carnage Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-22 and Counting

Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold
TOTALS 0 88 229 19301 1.19%

Comp

0.281x of Black Widow's First Day of Presales (3.71M)

0.170x of Black Widow T-22 (2.25M)

1.974x of The Suicide Squad T-22 (8.09M)

0.449x of Shang-Chi's First Day of Presales (3.95M)

Despite being a sequel, I do think Venom 2 isn't a perfect comp with the MCU titles, as those just simply put have a bigger fanbase and fan rush towards them IMO that Venom won't really get this early on. I do however think The Suicide Squad works here and so far, that is an...okay preview number, even if it would cause a decrease in OW. How big a decrease, and whether a decrease should be expected or disappointing or whatever is up to you.

Either way, not the greatest start in the world, but nothing that can't be improved upon.

Venom should have bigger fanbase than Shang Chi, who was unknown to many.

I shouldn't have come to this thread. I am now all in on bad "theaters are dead" thoughts again. :whosad:

Nondisney/MCU is dead.

...we did it gang, finally back to 2019 normalcy! 😉

I hope people can stop using trailer views to predict success after this.

I'm waiting for the inevitable "Venom 2 Eyes $90M DOM" article from Deadline.

My local Falmouth theater doesn't even have tickets available yet for Venom. L O L.  Nor does the new Apple Cinema that took over from Cinemagic.

The Newington Regal has 18 tickets sold (16 Premium, 1 3D, 1 2D) and is starting off with 7 showings.

ETA:

So update on the Cinemagic/Apple sale.  It looks like Apple bought Four of Cinemagic's theaters -- Saco IMAX, Westbrook, Hooskett IMAX, Merrimac.  Interesting they didn't buy Portsmouth.  Probably thought the Fox Run Regal was enough to support the area. (The theaters were only 5 miles/10 minutes from each other.)

Best news thought?  Their website, when buying tickets, shows "X Available".  No counting when snagging numbers.  Muahaha.

So it's still going to take some time (I won't really officially start until Saco IMAX reopens), but I should go back to covering at least 11 independent New England theaters + the Regal.  They're SUPPOSED to be open for end of September, but who knows. (TBH I bet the hardest thing right now is finding the staff. Part of me thinks I should apply, but I know better than that).

My local AMC is starting off with 6 show: 3 regular and 3 IMAX. This is actually more than they had for SC because for some reason they had no preview showings listed for SC in the first couple of days of presales.

So far total 51 tickets sold, 28 regular and 23 IMAX.

Shang Chi Tuesday

MTC1 - 139676/653365 1975786.33 3678 shows

MTC2 - 126013/661343 858009.49 4813 shows

MTC2's average ticket price went down huge due to discount tuesday. I think drop will be in low 60s. But the variance of MTC1/2 makes it a hard day to guess. Still another excellent day for Shang Chi.

Shang Chi Wednesday

MTC1 - 75286/630752 1092236.70 3552 shows

MTC2 - 61409/651594 656408.69 4510 shows

So tad under 45% drop at MTC1 and 23.5% drop in MTC2 (no discount price today). Thinking around 35% drop today. Around 4.3m wednesday. I will take a break tomorrow and see if friday looks like a breakout 2nd weekend.

You'd think so but looking at my theater they allotted 2:40m on each screen between each show.    Here come the ads.

Nothing much to speak off yet but it's starting off with almost double SC's seats and 9 screenings instead of 5

=12/2766  (8:30pm)

SC was = 33/1402 but that was at Midnight of the first day

Midnight -  13/2776  (39% of SC)

Black Widow comp(7 hours): 2.89M

Nothing crazy so far. I never specified how long tickets had been on sale for SS in my data, but it shouldn't really matter for this early of a read. My first count for Shang-Chi was at 17 hours, so I'll do another update tonight.

Venom 2 Thursday Showings Denver

Black Widow comp(18 hours): 3.13M

Shang-Chi comp(17 hours): 3.86M

This is a bit under 13 hours of sales. I have to get up early so it's the closest I'll get to the comps, but doesn't really matter anyways. Pretty good past 6 hours I'd say. I don't expect this to be as presale heavy as the MCU, even though it's also Marvel and Venom. Looks like it'll be more like F9. Should be pretty close to F9's T-21 tomorrow

I went back to check Venom 1's first day of presales and it wasn't very impressive either. It was behind even A Star Is Born

A lot of people were thinking Venom was going to flop/underperform right up until its OW. I would be too worried about it at least until the week of release.
