both The Equalizer and Mamma Mia are pretty much selling the same at the seven and eight o clock showings here

The question is: which one of these sequels will be more frontloaded over the weekend?

Judging by these numbers, it is The Equalizer but only slightly so.

It's opening in 600 theaters that weekend I believe. I imagine it hits 2k theaters within two weeks, and if it's doing really well, it could get into 3k like Wind River (maybe not though because rural appeal will probably be limited)

If you are referring to Wyoming or an area similar to that for rural appeal, then yeah, no one expects it to play there. If you just mean red states in general, then I am not too sure about that. If I recall correctly, Get Out performed the best in sheer sales in Georgia. It just needs about 2,500 theaters, and that oughta be enough. Opening in 600, and expanding it wider is pointless to me. They might as well just open it in 2000+ theaters than start out at 600. I expect it to perform better than Wind River, though.

Equalizer's gonna do equivalent of 4M at my theatre tonight. Earlier I had it at 5 but it hasn't been doing as great for late shows as I thought it would.

Mama Mia was the biggest surprise for previews here since It 2017 did 19. But it ended up with around 11.3 here, maybe a little more

Honestly, I wouldn't buy that stat even If I asked the people myself lol.

typical. believe in stats only when you want to

ok. so according to you its what? 20, 30, 40%

you probably believe that with the way the fake media portrays it.

anyway. its a perfect movie night for couple that sleep in separate rooms and fall asleep watching separate movies

the women(the majority of Mamma's audience) will watch one and the men(the majority of E2) will watch the other

MT update - The Equalizer should become #2 soon:

#1 MM2 35%
#2 HT 3 14.3%
#3 The Equalizer 2 13.6%
#4 Ant-Man 7.9%
#5 TI2 5.5%

And Pulse: 138(!)/5 minutes for Equalizer 2 at the moment,
         and exactly the same - 138 - for MM2,
Unfriended still terrible with 6/5 minutes.

Honestly, it's not like I am taking this personally in any way. It's just that from my experience which I admit includes mainly people from Western Europe in their 20s it feels like a low number. If I had to guess, I would go with sth like 15-20% for gay and bi included.

I don't know but also you understand that it's a question that not everyone would answer easily right?

I may be wrong of cource since it's just my experience speaking.

Incredibles 2: 8/390

Jurassic World: 7/306

Unfriended: 2/427 (Up 2)

The First Purge and Uncle Drew have sold nothing.

I'm kind of surprised by how light I2, JW, and Skyscraper are. Incredibles has still been selling very well the past week even with HT3, so IDK why it's sold practically nothing today.

Mamma Mia comps:

145% of A Wrinkle in Time (48M)

190% of Wonder (52.3M)

215% of The Post (41.7M)

215% of Ocean's 8 (88.6M)

245% of Book Club (33.3M)

400% of Pitch Perfect 3 (79.6M)

450% of Mountain Between Us (47.7M)

It's lost some ground with a few comps (Book Club in particular), but it's become bigger with comps like PP3

The Equalizer:

34% of Deadpool 2 (42.7M)

115% of Dunkirk (58.1M)

135% of Kingsman 2 (52.7M)

195% of 12 Strong (30.8M)

205% of Hostiles (20.7M)

225% of Death Wish (29.3M)

305% of American Made (51.2M)

335% of Atomic Blonde (61.3M)

It doesn't take a genius to see that Unfriended is doing horribly. Even Friend Request sold more tickets than it did :hahaha:

Unfriended actually sold well-ish at my theater last night (in a 60 seater) but flopped horrendously everywhere else lol. Probably because that's the most popular location to see a new movie around here by far.

The new movies continue to have a good day at my locals...my Regal has decided to pull the last showings of JWFK and Ant-Man (this still has 1 10pm showing b/c it was dual screened) to give 1 to Mama Mia and 1 to Equalizer.  It also pulled 1 4pm from Ant-Man for Mama Mia...just like I thought - since it's so tight, Ant Man is giving up showings from its 2nd screen to the new films as needed...

It will be interesting if they repeat this tomorrow...

PS - Skyscraper also just gave up a last showing to Equalizer, so it's +2 showings to both movies today (Equalizer must be selling well at 10pm and later vs other movies:)...
