Saw S:H tonight in a Movie Tavern theater for the first time. Really enjoyed the movie. Easily the best one since Spidey2.

As for the theater, I loved it! Recliner seats, waiters taking your order. Awesome! It was my first experience with assigned seating as well.

We have one of those around here (iPic). Great theater experience, but too pricey for those who are frequent moviegoers.

Coco could not release and no one will notice. As an animation and a Pixar fan I feel a bit bat about it. Hope matches Boss Baby and Lego Bat's ~175 dom. It's OS may not be big either. Will be something if both the Pixar releases fail to do 500 ww this year. Cars3 as it is will be well below that.

Ingrid felt like a total non starter. Not sure why anyone thought it would be good to release in theaters. It has streaming written all over it. Good Time has one of the worst marketing campaigns I have never seen. I sought out the trailer when it dropped. It was fantastic. That was the last time I saw anything about it. A24 majorly fucked up on this. If they are gonna release movies in theaters, they have to do a better job. Why not just sell to streaming?

That's probably because it's "wide" release is 721 theaters.

Happy that you've enjoyed the film, mate! :spidey:

I wish Netflix released viewership numbers so that we could confirm this :(

if the Netflix numbers were big, they probably would have released it or give us an idea of their viewership as it would have been a good case of streaming movies is just as as big the audience of theaters which they have been advocating

I kinda wish one of Disney's  2016 trio (Zootopia-Dory-Moana) was released this summer instead. Cars 3 was just too weak and contributed to the decline this summer

Holy fuck, Ingrid's PTA is going to be around $1,500 for the weekend and Good Time's at barely 1k. They're not gonna get expanded to 1k theaters. How lame. They're skewing younger too, so rural audiences won't go for them.

Theaters are empty.  They just did two huge expansions pushing WW and BD into 2000+ theaters resulting in $700 PTAs.  They should both get expansions though they wont last long.

Both studios actually tried to sell these movies (especially Neon and Ingrid), audiences just didn't respond to them. It's becoming increasingly common for most specialty titles that either aren't easily accessible to mainstream crowds (The Big Sick, Wind River) or aren't awards contenders these days that they just don't find an audience in theaters.

The Big Sick is going to do around $40m domestic - it's done very well and will make more than several award contenders/nominees/winners of the last several years.   Not to mention better than several far more expensive mainstream movies this year at a fraction of the budget.

(Edit) Wind River looks to end around $20-25m domestic. It's will pass The Hurt Locker.

A theatrical release is still generally good advertisement for latter VOD/Streaming/Video release. These smaller films like Ingrid or Colossal  aren't getting big or even medium P&A ad spends from Neon but the reviews, interviews and buzz that come from a theatrical release only help them to sell latter on.

Ingrid Goes West and Good Time bombing is another slap in the face of a Godawful late August timespan. It's all on Wind River to try to rescue the frame tbh - and considering that the Weinsteins are actually putting faith on Tulip Fever out of nowhere.... for some reason (best case scenario: it does Light Between Oceans numbers), it could still be hurt by its distributor's own stupidity. Hitman and Annabelle can only do so much in terms of holds, especially since both will surely fall below 10M by the 3-day for next weekend.

Well..... at least, if Wind River catches on decently and gets a good expansion (with or without Tulip Fever and Leap out there too), it has a shot at being #2 or #3 next weekend. Maybe even #1. Who knows.

What faith? They're dumping it with barely any advertising and are only releasing it in 600 theaters. Oogieloves numbers wouldn't surprise me (and would be a fitting conclusion for a movie that's had a rough road to finally seeing the light of day).

Oh, I was still going with the idea that they were throwing it in over 2000 theaters. Well, that's kind of a sigh of relief. Yeah, it is a dumpjob, but I thought that with over 2000 theaters, they still were hoping for it to do mid single digits while sacrificing WR a little bit in the process. Glad to be wrong.

I'm not watching Coco.Given the film's story, the fact that it's from Pixar and the dog in the trailers is old...yeah that movie is not for me.

What if it gets amazing reviews? 😉 :jeb!:
